Very informative and enjoyable tour. Value for money.

The tour guide, Benny was very good in providing guide and information about Puntarenas and Costa Rica. We are only 4 ( 2 couples) in our tour group, so the tour was particularly catered to us. We visited the old town, the mountains, crocodile , monkeys and the birds( macaw) and also did some shopping . All in all it was a 5 hour tour.

The Tour Operator Canceled Last Minute

I only gave it 1 star because they advised us the morning we were due to go that others had dropped out, and they couldn't take us alone without an upgrade to a private tour. We walked to the end of the pier and found a great tour guide who took us to all the sites and had a great time. Still waiting for a promised refund.

Puntarenas with Hazel = a Great Excursion

We booked this as a private shore excursion, instead of the ones offered by NCL, in large part because it offered a smaller group size. This allowed us into some locations that a large tour bus could not go. (ex monkey sanctuary, mountain restaurant, roadside pull-outs, etc.) Our guide, Hazel, was excellent. She was well-educated and well-informed and gave us an in-depth and personal experience. She also would adjust some portions of our tour to fit the needs and wishes of our smaller group. Hazel brought along a spotting scope and used it to help us see distant wildlife that our cameras could not reach. Only "down side" was there was not a lot of time for local shopping. We would do this tour again if we re-visit Costa Rica.

Tour was so much more...

Tour was so much more than expected for the money. Our tour guide was Alex, the bus driver was Ricardo. Alex was a great guide who was very knowledgeable about the area. Sorry we only got to see 1 croc but lunch was very tasty. They tried very hard to show us whatever animals that appeared on the roadside. Great Tour!!

BOOK THIS TOUR!

Wonderful! Monkeys, scarlet macaws, crocodiles, fresh mango samples, perfect place to stop to buy lunch, amazing guide, etc! Did SO much more than a cruise company tour, and for SO much less money.

Puntarenas sightseeing tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puntarenas.

How much does Puntarenas sightseeing tour cost?

+

Prices start at $29 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puntarenas usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Puntarenas sightseeing tour take?

+

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puntarenas is not rushed.

Is Puntarenas sightseeing tour worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 74 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 123 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Puntarenas, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Puntarenas sightseeing tour?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Puntarenas sightseeing tour suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 3. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 4-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Puntarenas sightseeing tour?

+

Around 43 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Puntarenas can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Puntarenas and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Puntarenas sightseeing tour start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Puntarenas within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Puntarenas?

+

On Outty we rank every Puntarenas experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tortuga Island Tour with Costa Cat, Small Group Night Walking Tour in Monteverde, Small Group Wildlife Refuge Monteverde Night Walking Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Puntarenas?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Puntarenas?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
