Great night hike with Jesus
Fantastic night hike! Our guide Jesus was so knowledgeable and his love for wildlife really shone through. We saw all kinds of bugs and birds (sleeping toucans, jays, and hummingbirds) as well as 2 snakes. Highly recommended.

Must do activity!!
This was an awesome experience! We saw a porcupine, holler monkey, frogs, funnel spiders, scorpions, very hard working leaf-carrying ants, and some sleeping birds. We also saw a lot of flora! Moreover, our guide was extremely knowledgeable!!

Too crowded
Unfortunately our guide was super late, not to mention the reservation states 5:30 however the tour doesn't start until 6pm. Super frustrating when we arrived earlier than 5:30 to ensure we weren't late. The tour trail gets VERY BUSY and not every group maintains quiet respect for the animals and other groups so it just seems a bit chaotic and less enjoyable than others we have been on. Our tour did last 2 hours but it did feel rushed (maybe the trail the guides follow is a bit long?), we did see a couple great animals but overall there wasnt much discussion about nature during this nature tour. The path itself has lots of steps and slippery pathways so he wary - not for everyone.
Response from the operator: Hello, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We’re truly sorry to hear that your tour didn’t meet your expectations. We completely understand how frustrating it must have been to arrive early and then experience a delay. Our meeting time is 5:30 p.m. to allow guests enough time to check in and get ready, while the guided walk begins around 6:00 p.m., when wildlife activity increases. However, we apologize if this was not communicated clearly and appreciate your feedback, as it helps us improve. We’re also sorry that the trail felt crowded during your visit. As this is a public trail, there are times when visitor numbers are higher than we would like, and unfortunately we cannot control the behavior of other groups. We understand how this can affect the experience, especially on a nature-focused tour.

Cool experience
This tour was so enjoyable! Rafael found a lot of wildlife for us in the forest and helped us take amazing photos with his scope. We learned a lot from him and the time went so quickly. Highly recommend trying out this tour! We went when it was raining and still saw a lot of animals.

Nighttime tour
Raphael was great! We were with our 3 boys and he kept them engaged and entertained! Saw lots of cool insects, snakes, birds and even a scorpion!

Why this scores 84
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Small Group Wildlife Refuge Monteverde Night Walking Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puntarenas.
How much does Small Group Wildlife Refuge Monteverde Night Walking Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $27 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puntarenas usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Small Group Wildlife Refuge Monteverde Night Walking Tour take?
+
Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puntarenas is not rushed.
Is Small Group Wildlife Refuge Monteverde Night Walking Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 84 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 88 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Puntarenas, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Small Group Wildlife Refuge Monteverde Night Walking Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Small Group Wildlife Refuge Monteverde Night Walking Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 5. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 2-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Small Group Wildlife Refuge Monteverde Night Walking Tour?
+
Around 31 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Puntarenas can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Puntarenas and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Small Group Wildlife Refuge Monteverde Night Walking Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Puntarenas within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Puntarenas?
+
On Outty we rank every Puntarenas experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tortuga Island Tour with Costa Cat, Small Group Night Walking Tour in Monteverde, Half day surf and adventure in Montezuma. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Puntarenas?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Puntarenas?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
