A superb day at Tulum and snorkelling in Cenotes

So we visited Tulum and 2 Cenotes with Leo and Adrian, and would thoroughly recommend this trip. Leo picked us up in a well conditioned Toyota, he wasn’t allowed onto into our resort area as planned so called ahead and we got the shuttle to the main gate, no problem to wait for us. During a quick drive from Playa del Carmen to Tulum Leo told us what to expect from the trip and also information on the area and the people living here. At Tulum he handed us over to Adrian who took great care of us, tickets had all been sorted out in advance and we were warned against the tourist traps on the way in. Adrian was very informative and we were amazed to hear that what remains of the documented Mayan language was deciphered by a Ukrainian and will find out more about Yuri. Tulum itself was of course amazing. Then Adrian took us back to Leo and we discussed which Cenotes we’d like to swim in - when we booked (via Booking.com) the info we had was it’s just swimming not snorkeling, this is not the case, you can snorkel. If you have masks and snorkels do take them, if not Leo is equipped. We went to Cenote Nicte-Ha which had waterlillies and Leo also came into the water to show us the underground part. The second cenote I don’t have the name but it was nearer the ocean and we swam to where the underground river surfaces. After swimming, delicious tacos and watermelon juice in a local restaurant. A fantastic trip, I can’t post photos as they are on my camera but will add later if I can. If you are nearby do this trip!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a detailed review! We’re thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your day in Tulum and the cenotes, and especially that the experience felt informative, comfortable, and well organized from beginning to end. We’re very happy that Leo and Adrian took such good care of you. We’ll definitely share your kind words with them. It’s wonderful to hear that you enjoyed learning not only about Tulum and the Maya civilization, but also about the region and its people. And we’re especially glad you enjoyed the cenotes! Being able to experience both the open and underground sides of these natural systems is one of the things we love most about this experience. We’re also happy the local tacos and watermelon juice were a great way to finish the day! Thank you again for recommending us so warmly. It was a pleasure having you with us, and we hope you’ll come back to explore more of Mexico with us in the future. Warm regards, Caleb BTM Team

Excellent tour company

This is the second time that I have booked with Boutique tours and it was a great experience! It was so easy to arrange the tour for 4 of us and communicate any concerns with them. Caleb was our guide and he was very professional and accommodating. He helped us plan our day, picked great cenote options and even offered suggestions based on what we wanted to experience. He even took us for local tacos when that wasn't part of the itinerary! Overall, we had a fantastic day with him especially since he is so personable and made sure we were comfortable. I would definitely recommend them if you want a fantastic experience! I definitely plan on booking with them for future trips!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for coming back to Boutique Tours Mexico for a second time! It truly means a lot to know that you trusted us again and that you had another great experience. It was a pleasure spending the day with you and your group. I’m especially glad we were able to shape the itinerary around what you wanted to experience and find cenotes that were a good fit for you. And of course, I couldn’t let you leave without trying some good local tacos! Thank you for your trust, your kind words, and for recommending us so warmly. Knowing that you’re already planning to book with us again on future trips is one of the greatest compliments we could receive. I’ll be looking forward to welcoming you back to Mexico! Warm regards, Caleb BTM Team

Best decision of our whole trip!

We had an amazing experience touring an underground river/cenote with Leo. It was the best thing we did on our trip, and we did a lot of amazing things. He took us out for lunch, and that too was a highlight - best meal we ate of the whole trip. Joel took us on the tour of the Tulum ruins and that too was great. He was very knowledgeable and shared interesting family history about Mayan culture. He just could not beat 0.5 miles of cave swimming with stalactites, so Leo wins best event of the trip! Worth every penny.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for this wonderful review! I’m thrilled to hear that the underground river and cave experience became the highlight of your entire trip. Swimming through the cave surrounded by stalactites is truly something special, and I’m so happy you enjoyed it as much as we do. I’m also glad the lunch was another highlight and that you enjoyed the local food so much. And I’ll definitely share your kind words with Leo and with Joel — I’m sure he’ll be very happy to know that you enjoyed his explanation of Tulum and the Maya culture. It was a pleasure having you with us, and knowing that you felt the experience was worth every penny means a lot. Thank you again for choosing Boutique Tours Mexico, and I hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back for another adventure! Warm regards, Caleb BTM Team

This was a fantastic tour...

This was a fantastic tour of the Mayan ruins at Tulum, followed by swimming in two cenotes - one underground, the other above ground. Our guide was great, and came with a nice air-conditioned minivan. He made everything easy. He was also our guide through the underground cenote. The tour arranged a separate guide to take us through the ruins - he was really knowledgeable too. In short - this was great for our family of 5; a bit more money than a group tour but so much easier. We also got to get out earlier and get to the sites with fewer people.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I’m very happy to hear that your family enjoyed the day and that everything felt easy and comfortable from beginning to end. I’m especially glad you enjoyed experiencing both the underground and open cenotes, and that starting early allowed you to enjoy the sites with fewer people. That is one of the main advantages of a private tour, and we’re happy it made a difference for your family. Thank you for trusting Boutique Tours Mexico and for taking the time to recommend us. It was a pleasure having your family with us, and I hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back to Mexico someday! Warm regards, Caleb BTM Team

Amazing! So special.

Amazing, as always! We’ve now had three tours with boutique Mexican tours, each with a different guide and everyone is so professional and makes us feel at ease. The experiences are great and educational and we are well taken care of.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for coming back to Boutique Tours Mexico for a third time! It truly means a lot to us that you continue trusting us with your experiences in Mexico. I’m especially happy to hear that, even with different guides each time, you’ve consistently felt comfortable, well taken care of, and able to enjoy the experiences. That is exactly what we strive for. Thank you for your continued trust and support. We truly appreciate it, and we hope to welcome you back for a fourth adventure soon! Warm regards, Caleb BTM Team

Private Tulum & Cenotes tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Playa del Carmen.

How much does Private Tulum & Cenotes tour cost?

+

Prices start at $160 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Playa del Carmen usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Tulum & Cenotes tour take?

+

Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Playa del Carmen is not rushed.

Is Private Tulum & Cenotes tour worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 81 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 101 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Playa del Carmen, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Tulum & Cenotes tour?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Tulum & Cenotes tour suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 1. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 6-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Private Tulum & Cenotes tour?

+

Around 35 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Playa del Carmen can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Playa del Carmen and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Tulum & Cenotes tour start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Playa del Carmen within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Playa del Carmen?

+

On Outty we rank every Playa del Carmen experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include VIP Chichen Itza Private Tour, VIP Tulum Private Tour, Chichen Itza Private Tour VIP. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Playa del Carmen?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Playa del Carmen?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
