The best way to travel from Salzburg to Vienna!

My family and I booked a private daytrip / transfer from Salzburg to Vienna, as we were searching for the best way to to travel between the two cities and stop in Hallstatt for a few hours. The trip was seamless and did not disappoint. Our driver, Daniel, was punctual and a safe driver. Hallstatt is amazing and a must see if you are visiting Austria!

Excellent driver and service from Mario!

Mario was a fantastic driver and guide who provided outstanding service. Here are the specifics: He proactively communicated with me the day before so we could tie up any loose ends in the details. We had six people with luggage, so the vehicle accommodations were vital to us. He was also flexible about our plans as we extended our stay a little longer to do the Salt Mine tour in Hallstatt. He found us a great restaurant along the route that was quick but also delicious so we could have a good lunch during the trip. He was pleasant, friendly, a great driver, and exceptional for what we needed. Thank you, Mario!

Response from the operator: Thank you for your fantastic review! We're so pleased to hear that Mario provided such outstanding service and made sure every detail of your trip went smoothly. His proactive communication, flexibility with your plans, and finding a great spot for lunch all contributed to making your experience even better. We're thrilled that he was able to accommodate your group comfortably and that his friendly and professional approach made the journey enjoyable. We'll be sure to pass along your kind words to Mario, and we look forward to welcoming you on another exceptional trip soon!

Private tour in Austria

Thomas our driver was phenomenal! He was so accommodating and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend him!! Our trip was a beautiful drive from Salzburg to Vienna with stops at Hallstatt and Melk.

Response from the operator: Hi! We appreciate your feedback. We are happy to know Tomas helped you have an even better day. It makes us glad to know your transfer went well with the 2 stops along he way. We can't wait to see you in your next trip.

Disappointing

This is a great option if your goal is to leverage time to site see on a travel day. Driver was on time and courteous, What I will say is you should think of it like a taxi not a tour guide. Do all of your research on seasonal openings yourself. Check openings, closings times, seasonal adjustment to schedules and drive times yourself. I booked this with 3 stops. That morning, after our first stop the driver mentioned that our last stop would likely be closed by the time we got there. He wasn’t wrong, and we missed what we were most looking forward to. Coincidentally I had booked a private transfer with a different company for 3 days later from Vienna to Budapest and made a similar type of mistake. That company emailed me before and suggested a slight shift in our departure time to accommodate opening times of our destinations. That email was what I would call excellent service and really made a difference in my experience. This day trip company simply pointed out that it was my responsibility. For those reasons I would only use this company as an absolute last resort going forward.

Response from the operator: Dear Machay, Thank you for your review. 1) we did check all our transfers and you are not our customer 2) we do private transfers like the main service in 15 EU countries, the sightseeing stop is only an additional service, the drivers are local and they have basic information - we say they are not pro guides 3) for 2h of sightseeing is not possible to choose three stops for example on this transfer we offer these stops: - Sankt Gilgen - 30 minutes detour and stop for one hour - Hallstatt - one hour detour, stop minimum 90-120 minute stop - Mauthausen Concentration Camp - 40 minutes detour, minimum 90-120 minutes stop - Melk - 10 minutes detour, 30-90 minutes stop - Durnstein - 60 minutes detour, 60-90 minutes stop - Kreuzenstein - 40 minutes detour, 60-90 minutes stop Direct transfer from Salzburg to Vienna is 3.5-4 hours hotel-to-hotel. It is not possible to make 3 stops when you did buy a trip with 2 hours of sightseeing. 4) we offer over 250 sightseeing stops on our trips and the opening time is different in summer and in autumn, different on Saturday than on Wednesday and we sure can't watch each place and make a schedule for each customer. It is not possible for this price. We can sure make longer stops for the small charge. We are not a guide company, but we are a shuttle company, and information about that is in each product description and "welcome message". 5) drivers are not guides - the rules for guiding in Austria are too hard, we keep the prices on the edge and only one hour with a guide costs more than a driver with a car, 95% of our drivers speak English and they are local. The transfer was fully provided, and the driver was there at the right time. We promised what you bought and your review is truly not fair! Jan

Stops chosen and approximate time do not match

The details on this is misleading. It states that you can have 2 stops along with the transfer with a list of 5 places to choose from and that it should take approximately 4 hours. This is not the case from our experience. We chose Hallstatt and Concentration camp in advance of the transfer. We were not informed that to include both stops it would be 5 1/2 hours. This was not told to us until we were on our way. As a travel advisor, if I tell my clients it says about 4 hours with 2 stops, I need to know ahead of time if the two stops they select will make it more time. We did not get to see the Concentration Camp as we had obligations in Vienna at a certain time. The guide was fine, but didn't know a lot about the area.

Response from the operator: Dear Lucy, I am sorry you are disappointed. Only the way from Salzburg to Vienna is 3 and half hours if you check it on the map. I told you we can go to the Mathauseen but you said "NO". So is not my fault and we hope the clients have basic information about the area where they travel. The stops are really different so is not easy to be concrete in the time. Only Hallstatt is one hour more in the car, Mauthausen 30 minutes, Melk 5minutes... I finished this road more than 50 times and I told you all what I know. We saying we get you a local driver, but not a licensed guide. I guess I told you many many interesting things about places, but I don't know all details. We travel with the people in Czech, Germany, Austria, Poland, Hungary.. so I can't know all details. Our service is mostly shuttle from A to B with a local English-speaking driver and we show you some interesting places along the way and we did get you this with our best. Thank you, Jan

Private transfer from Salzburg to Vienna, 2 hours for sightseeing: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Salzburg.

How much does Private transfer from Salzburg to Vienna, 2 hours for sightseeing cost?

+

Prices start at $90 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Salzburg usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private transfer from Salzburg to Vienna, 2 hours for sightseeing take?

+

Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Salzburg is not rushed.

Is Private transfer from Salzburg to Vienna, 2 hours for sightseeing worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 59 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.3/5 across 7 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Salzburg, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private transfer from Salzburg to Vienna, 2 hours for sightseeing?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private transfer from Salzburg to Vienna, 2 hours for sightseeing suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private transfer from Salzburg to Vienna, 2 hours for sightseeing?

+

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Salzburg can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Salzburg and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private transfer from Salzburg to Vienna, 2 hours for sightseeing start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Salzburg within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Salzburg?

+

On Outty we rank every Salzburg experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Austrian Apple Strudel Cooking Class including Lunch in Salzburg, Salzburg: Palace Concert at the Marble Hall of Mirabell Palace, Salzburg Oldtown: Sightseeing Walking Tour with Licensed Local Guide. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Salzburg?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Salzburg?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
