About this experience
Join this tour for a full day Sound of Music Tour. Starting with a private walking tour through the old town of Salzburg you will learn a lot about the history of Salzburg. You will also see all the filming locations which are located in the pedestrian area and can not be seen on any other Sound of Music Tour. At lunchtime, you will join a cooking class and prepare your own apple strudel. While the strudel is baking you will be served goulash soup as lunch and then enjoy your apple strudel as dessert. After lunch, you enter one of our minivans to continue the private Sound of Music Tour. We will show you the back of the movie version of the Von Trapp Villa and bring you to the 16-going-on-17 gazebo. Afterwards, we will drive on a small countryside backroad and show you the real Austria, away from mass tourism. The final stop of this tour is the picturesque town of Mondsee where we will visit the wedding church before we head back to Salzburg.

From Uncertainty to Pure Magic: Bob’s Tours Delivered
We booked a private Sound of Music + Hallstatt tour with Bob’s Tours, and we are so glad we did. Our day began with a small hiccup, but the team recovered with such professionalism and care that it quickly became one of the highlights of our entire trip. Because of that adjustment, we had the pleasure of spending the day with two outstanding guides, Elvis and Francesca. They brought an extraordinary mix of knowledge, passion, humor, and calm confidence behind the wheel. Their storytelling made Salzburg’s history and the Sound of Music locations feel alive, and their familiarity with the region gave us insights we never would have discovered on our own. Hallstatt was absolutely spectacular. Even after years of seeing photos, nothing prepares you for the beauty of standing there in person — the lake, the mountains, the village… it’s breathtaking. If you’re considering this tour, we highly recommend including the Hallstatt portion. It completes the experience in a way that’s hard to put into words. What started with a moment of uncertainty became an unforgettable day, thanks to Elvis, Francesca, and a company that truly puts its guests first. We would book a private tour with Bob’s Tours again in a heartbeat.

The "hills are alive" with this tour
A definite must for Sound of Music lovers! Our guide Elvis was professional, timely, courteous, and knowledgeable. He shared many "behind the scenes" details about the movie and its performers as well as general information about the Salzburg area as we toured. Elvis sought out our input on how we wanted the day to go and adjusted easily to our requests. A very educational and pleasurable day.

Private Salzburg Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Salzburg.
How much does Private Salzburg Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $1478 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Salzburg usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Salzburg Tour take?
+
Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Salzburg is not rushed.
Is Private Salzburg Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 50 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 2 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Salzburg, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Salzburg Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private Salzburg Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private Salzburg Tour?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Salzburg can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Salzburg and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Salzburg Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Salzburg within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Salzburg?
+
On Outty we rank every Salzburg experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Austrian Apple Strudel Cooking Class including Lunch in Salzburg, Salzburg: Palace Concert at the Marble Hall of Mirabell Palace, Salzburg Oldtown: Sightseeing Walking Tour with Licensed Local Guide. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Salzburg?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Salzburg?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
