    10. By now, the day is winding down. There is no better way to catch the sunset than by looking out over the South Maui coastline from Ulupalakua, an area of quiet ranch land and striking views. Here, Hawaiian cowboys, or paniolos, herded cattle and established a unique cowboy culture that predated the American West.

      Pass by without stopping

    11. Huialoha Church

Visually stunning, the Mokulau Islets are a number of lava rocks offshore from the beautiful Huialoha Church. The church itself was painstakingly restored by members of the community in the 1970's. This corner of the backside feels genuinely remote — few visitors ever make it this far.

A stress free trip to Hāna and the backside.

My wife and I went on the road to Hāna ultimate trip which included returning via the backside. Eugene is a small business owner, who was great. He is extremely knowledgeable. The trip is customized to your likes and speed. You get to go to places that larger vans don’t go to. I’m glad I did not drive the roads myself. Lots of hairpin turns, single lane roads and bridges. You get to sit back and enjoy the scenery rather than focus on driving. Eugene knew that the backside road would be closed while they worked on shoring up the cliffs and that it wouldn’t open until the afternoon, so he planned the trip accordingly. A sign also said local traffic only.

Response from the operator: Aloha Eric! Thank you for taking the time to leave some feedback. I am happy to hear the two of you felt safe and were able to enjoy the scenery- the backside in particular is such a treat on the eyes! I remember we really lucked out with conditions being much greener than usual for that time of year. I hope you think of us again when you are ready for another memorable Maui adventure! Amazing

Our tour with Ohana Tours Maui was one of the highlights of our trip. Nick was fantastic—friendly, personable, and full of great stories and insights about the island. He made every stop memorable and was always happy to answer questions. If you’re looking for a memorable Maui experience, I highly recommend Ohana Tours Maui and guide Nick!

Response from the operator: Aloha Rafayel! I am happy to hear you had such a wonderful day out with Nick! The Road to Hana is spectacular anyways, but you throw in an ace guide like Nick and you have the recipe for an unforgettable experience. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for your recommendation- we hope you think of us next time you are on Maui! Mahalo, Eugene

Wonderful day tour to Hana with Eugene!

We had a wonderful day with Eugene. A wealth of information, you would think he grew up here. We saw some beautiful sites which we got to enjoy while Eugene handled the driving.

Response from the operator: Aloha Alan! Thank you so much for the kind words, and I am glad you all enjoyed the day out! It was a pleasure meeting Zuraida & yourself. I hope to hear from you two on your next trip to Maui! Mahalo, Eugene

Great private road to Hana tour.

This was an incredible day with Nick! He had drinks, snacks and made sure the day was tailored to what we wanted to do. He was awesome! Saw so many unique things, waterfalls, beaches, turtles, lava flows, amazing views, etc. if you want to do the road to Hana book this tour so you can avoid having to drive the crazy roads and just sit back and enjoy the views! Thanks Nick!!!!!

Response from the operator: Aloha Shane! Sounds like your trip to Hana was a blast! Nick definitely has a knack for customizing each day for what our guests interests are. I am especially glad you got to see the "backside" of the Road to Hana-that's my personal favorite part of the highway. I hope the rest of your vacation was just as fun! Mahalo, Eugene

Private Road to Hana Tour with Pickup-Ultimate Package, Backside: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Maui.

How much does Private Road to Hana Tour with Pickup-Ultimate Package, Backside cost?

    +

Prices start at $500 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Maui usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Road to Hana Tour with Pickup-Ultimate Package, Backside take?

    +

Plan for about 9 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Maui is not rushed.

Is Private Road to Hana Tour with Pickup-Ultimate Package, Backside worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 4 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Maui, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Road to Hana Tour with Pickup-Ultimate Package, Backside?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Road to Hana Tour with Pickup-Ultimate Package, Backside suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 9-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Road to Hana Tour with Pickup-Ultimate Package, Backside?

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Maui can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Maui and add a light layer if any part of the 9-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Road to Hana Tour with Pickup-Ultimate Package, Backside start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Maui within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Maui?

    +

Maui's three signature days are the Hana road, the Haleakala summit sunrise and the Molokini snorkel sail, and all three are logistics problems as much as experiences. Sunrise summit entry is permit-controlled, Hana is a ten-hour driving day, and Molokini boats vary wildly in size. Our ranking rewards operators who handle permits and keep boat capacity low. On Outty we rank every Maui experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Molokini Crater + South Maui Coast Adventure from Kihei, Maui, Maui: VIP Private Road to Hana Tour with Pick Up, West Maui Snorkeling Experience by Boat from Ka'anapali. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Maui?

    +

April to May and September to October. Whale season runs December to April. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Maui?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
