    Intoxicated Shaman; 1..2…3

100 words is not enough to relay our experience. Shaman was high on SOMETHING, Shaman’s helper vomiting in the temezcal….NO English spoken other than Shaman: “You okay? Close your eyes….1,2,3” At one point we asked the Shaman, “Are YOU okay?” He opened the sweat lodge 4-5 times during the ceremony, almost had hot rocks flung on us, wanted us to stand by the pit and almost received steam burns. Our driver was great but when we got to the destination NO ONE spoke to us. Sat around a table for 30-45 minutes and then a hurried “Go! The Shaman is ready!” No further explanation. The “Shaman” had 2 helpers with him that appeared to be his teenage children. The older of the 2 helpers had to leave the sweat repeatedly, finally beginning to wretch and vomit. I have done sweats and this was NOT a sweat. My poor husband had never done a sweat, and I begged him to go with me, promising an AMAZING experience. I have sealed my fate that he will never go again! The San Carlos Ecolodge was a BEAUTIFUL place. Perfect surroundings. We paid a TON for a private sweat with a true Shaman. Could have been so amazing, but an out of his tits “Shaman” who could barely stand up and could barely speak other than slurred words while swaying and practically unable to stand at one point, turned the experience into quite the debacle. I’m a nurse, my husband a retired firefighter; we thought we would be providing medical care at several points in the 90 minute “experience” The San Carlos Ecolodge owner was mortified and very apologetic. He said he had never dealt with this “Shaman” before.

Scam Do Not Use This Service

This is a scam. Do not use this service. Dinner consisted of Watermelon. Seven hours was only 2.5 hours. The pond you cool off in afterwards is full of algae and dirt. They greet you and then leave you to wander on their property until you hear a whistle, then off to the temazcal with a "showman". My son has asthma and we asked if he had problems could he leave the structure. We were told yes. Well, he had an asthma attack and needed to leave. The leader of this event physically prevented him from leaving. This could have been a serious situation except that we found the door and dragged him out of the structure. If you have any health issues do not do this event. If you want to do a temazcal find another one. This one is a scam.

Response from the operator: Dear Yvonne We appreciate your comments have sent us and I comment you on the following In relation to the fruit-based dinner, this is mentioned in the specifications of the aforementioned tour, a meat or fish-based dinner is not recommended, since after the temazcal service, a rehydration of the body is needed and fruits and fresh waters offer this to the body It is also mentioned that if there are medium or severe health problems, it is not recommended to do so. The 7 hours of service are considered from the moment of pick up at the hotels, the temazcal service, light dinner, cenote and return to the hotel are carried out and for this reason this time is considered. Have a nice day

    Amazing experience

I would highly recommend this excursion. It was our favourite trip whilst in Cancun. Juan and Danny made the experience unmissable; they made us feel very comfortable and explained the meaning of the culture. We could of listened to Juan for hours. Will definitely be back!

Private or Shared Temazcal Unique Mayan Ritual from Cancun: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Playa del Carmen.

How much does Private or Shared Temazcal Unique Mayan Ritual from Cancun cost?

    +

Prices start at $145 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Playa del Carmen usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private or Shared Temazcal Unique Mayan Ritual from Cancun take?

    +

Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Playa del Carmen is not rushed.

Is Private or Shared Temazcal Unique Mayan Ritual from Cancun worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 44 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.8/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Playa del Carmen, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private or Shared Temazcal Unique Mayan Ritual from Cancun?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Private or Shared Temazcal Unique Mayan Ritual from Cancun suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private or Shared Temazcal Unique Mayan Ritual from Cancun?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Playa del Carmen can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Playa del Carmen and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private or Shared Temazcal Unique Mayan Ritual from Cancun start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Playa del Carmen within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Playa del Carmen?

    +

On Outty we rank every Playa del Carmen experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include VIP Chichen Itza Private Tour, VIP Tulum Private Tour, Chichen Itza Private Tour VIP. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Playa del Carmen?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Playa del Carmen?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
