Best tour we have ever had off Viator
We were so lucky to have booked this tour because Alan Maas was an incredible tour guide. Very knowledgeable and so helpful. I was dealing with back issues and he got me a wheelchair at the parks and pushed me around. He went above and beyond Made the day. He showed us things not listed on the itinerary and showed us stuff we never knew existed One thing I regret is not using this company for our badlands tour. I wish I had known that this company also was available.

Spectacular!
Our guide, Tass, was great. She is from the area and clearly has great love of the area and its history, and she goes out of her way to make sure visitors see what they want to see. In fact, I saw many animals that I had never seen in the wild, including of course buffalo. And up very close, too: I got a number of great shots of the animals at point-blank range. We saw Mt. Rushmore in a way that you don't see in photos anywhere. The Crazy Horse monument was far grander than I expected. The same was true of the Black Hills more generally. If you love, history, nature, and geology, then this tour is for you....

Highest Recommendation - Visually and Mentally Phenomenal Tour
Last minute trip to see South Dakota for my husband's birthday. Black Hills Adventure Tours was a winner! We choose a private all day tour and were picked up right at our hotel. Aura, our tour guide, is fantastic, knowledgeable, smart, funny, helpful, and a darn good driver. She knows all the great vista points. We happened to pick the week of the Sturgis rally and our tour van competed with the thousands of beautiful motorcycles for touring space on the road. Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park and Needles - we saw everything. Wildlife include bison outside my rolled down window, feeding carrots to the begging donkeys, prairie dogs and prong horned elk. Time flew by and we saw and learned so much. Aura provided snacks and a picnic lunch and navigated for us so we could relax and enjoy the experience. You will love your tour!

The Highlight of Our South Dakota Trip
We had such a great experience with Black Hills Adventure Tours and our guide, Aura. There were five of us traveling together, spanning three generations, and every single one of us had a great time. We were able to see and do so much in one day, including Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, Needles Highway, Sylvan Lake, and so much in between. Aura knew so much about the area and we learned a ton throughout the day, from the history of the Black Hills to the wildlife and little things we never would have known or noticed on our own. Nothing ever felt rushed. She gave us plenty of time at each stop, took great photos of us throughout the day, and really based the day around us and what we wanted to do. It felt much more personal than just following a set tour. As the trip planner, I also really appreciated all of her recommendations for the rest of our trip. We ended up following several of them and they were great. I really couldn’t recommend Aura and Black Hills Adventure Tours more. We did a lot during our time in South Dakota, but this was definitely the highlight of our trip!

Private Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park Monument Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rapid City.
How much does Private Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park Monument Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $366 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rapid City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park Monument Tour take?
+
Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rapid City is not rushed.
Is Private Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park Monument Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 76 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 149 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Rapid City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park Monument Tour?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Private Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park Monument Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park Monument Tour?
+
Around 52 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rapid City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rapid City and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park Monument Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rapid City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Rapid City?
+
Rapid City is the base for Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse tours, Badlands National Park loops, Custer State Park wildlife drives and Black Hills cave visits. On Outty we rank every Rapid City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Mount Rushmore and Black Hills Tour with Two Meals and a Music Variety Show, Bus Tour of Mount Rushmore and the Black Hills, PREMIER PRIVATE Tour: Mt Rushmore, CrazyHorse & Custer State Park. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Rapid City?
+
May to September, with Sturgis crowding early August. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Rapid City?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
