Insightful and educational tour into Jewish history of the region
We loved how our guide Vasco took us through the history of Jewish presence in Portugal from the time of the Phonecians, through the golden era of Portuguese as a leader in world trading and navigation and how Jewish participation was valued, as well as how the community eventually succumed to the inquisition and forced conversions, disappeared, and now is just starting to rebuild. The depth of detail was incredible and we learned many new things. The walk through Alfama showed us remnants of Jewish life that survived for centuries, such as architectural details that give clues to Jewish life in that area, for example, door lintels where marks show where mezuzahs were removed and crosses etched into the stone in their place to show compliance to their role as New Christians. The visit to the small Jewish cultural center and shule, and the Money Museum were additional highlights we enjoyed. A unique experience for anyone with interest on how Judaism helped shape the history of the Iberian peninsula - well researched and expertly presented.

The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Lisbon?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
