The oldest Abbey north of the Alps (714AD) was featured several times in the Sound of Music. Only the exterior of the abbey was used in the movie. Innside shots where done in a studio.

We leave the city of Salzburg driving south to the German boarder, your private guide will explain you the history of the city of Salzburg and how, for many years, it was a independent principality ruled by the catholic church and the importance of salt and how it influenced the growth of the city. You will board a specially equipped mountain bus for a breath-taking ride up the 4 mile road, with its 27% incline to a rocky plateau. From there we will walk through a 406ft (124 meter) long tunnel, leading us directly to the original WWII brass elevator that will transport you up through the heart of the Kehlstein mountain for another 406ft, straight into the Eagle’s Nest itself. After a tour through the Eagle’s Nest, you will have some free time to enjoy the view or have refreshments.
