Amazing day!
Very special experience visiting the Douro valley with João. He was very knowledgeable and willing to tell us about wine production, farming, politics, and Portuguese culture. Definitely recommend this experience!

One of the best tours we have ever had!
This was one of the best tours we have ever had. We were picked up at our hotel promptly by a very polite young man, Joao, who is one of the two owners. He drove us to Douro in a clean, very comfortable vehicle and he talked to us throughout the ride about the region’s history and winemaking. He was extremely knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. We went to two, well-organized wineries where we sampled wine and conversed with the owners and staff. We also went to a very nice restaurant where lunch had been arranged. Joao took pictures of me and my husband wherever we wanted and he also suggested best spots. We never felt rushed and, when planning the tour, they were very prompt in answering my questions and flexible. We highly recommend this team of mother and son for a personalized, highly enjoyable tour of their beloved Douro!

A Day in Douro - Experience the Best of Portuguese People, Wine and Culture
If what you are seeking is a private curated experience with outstanding and interesting wines (red, white, and port) at small family owned and operated vineyards than this will exceed your expectations. The private wine tour to the Douro Valley was an unforgettable experience and a highlight of our visit to Portugal. Our guide João was gracious, and so very knowledgeable about wine and the Douro valley. He loves wine, and his knowledge and taste across varietals comes from appreciation that heightens the experience. We got to visit winemakers off the beaten path, have a private lunch at a vineyard with authentic Portuguese food, and take the day at our own pace. In world where everything is overly commercialized, this is a gem of a find. João - Thank you! We will return and next time we bring a wine transportation suite case:-)
Response from the operator: Dear Sarah and Jacques, Thank you so much for this incredible review — it truly means a lot to us! We’re delighted to hear that your Douro Valley experience with João was such a highlight of your time in Portugal. And we’re glad you enjoyed the relaxed pace, the personal connections, and of course, the wines! We can't wait to welcome you back on your next visit! Best wishes, Sara, João and Rui

Must do in Douro Valley!
We weren't sure what to expect but were beyond pleased and had the best trip with Joao to the Douro Valley. It is a private tour where you get to learn from a local who's passionate about the area and the best part is that we got to visit with 2 small production wineries and actually meet the owners and walk around the vineyard with them. Lunch was extra special with more wine and the most amazing local Portuguese cuisine. It was an exceptional day with lots of laughs with Oporto & Douro Moments. We will look to do more tours with them when we're back in the country.
Response from the operator: Dear Tracey, Thank you so much for your lovely review! We’re thrilled to hear that your day in the Douro Valley with João exceeded your expectations. It means a lot to know you shared great memories and laughter along the way. We are looking forward to welcoming you back for more unforgettable experiences upon your return to Portugal! Best regards, Sara, João and Rui

Why this scores 78
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private Douro Valley Wine Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Porto.
How much does Private Douro Valley Wine Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $150 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Porto usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Douro Valley Wine Tour take?
+
Plan for about 8.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Porto is not rushed.
Is Private Douro Valley Wine Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 78 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 115 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Porto, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Douro Valley Wine Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private Douro Valley Wine Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private Douro Valley Wine Tour?
+
Around 40 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Porto can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Porto and add a light layer if any part of the 8.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Douro Valley Wine Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Porto within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Porto?
+
On Outty we rank every Porto experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Unvanquished Tour in Porto City Center, Porto's #1 Walking Tour, Small Group Geres National Park Full Day with picnic from Porto. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Porto?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Porto?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
