Pleasant, peaceful, and informative Tea Farm Outing

My day outing to the Kiambethu Tea Farm yesterday was fabulous. My very pleasant driver picked me up on time at my hotel and we visited on the drive to the Farm. Upon arrival, I made a quick stop at the exceptionally clean and pleasant washrooms, then wandered around the gardens that were filled with a profusion of flowering plants and brightly colored nectar eating birds. The tour itself was fun and interesting. Our host, Fiona, is the granddaughter of the man who started the farm around 1910. We gathered in her lovely home for a talk and also walked through a field of thick, healthy tea plants while she shared her family’s history and educated us on tea plants, tea picking and processing, and on the history of the tea industry. We watched tea being picked (the bud and the top two leaves) and enjoyed cups of tea with biscuits. We even went on a guided walk through the nearby forest. Near the end of our tour, we all settled down at beautifully set tables on the lawn in the middle of the garden for a well catered picnic. Upon departing the farm, I felt entirely relaxed and much better informed about tea. The drive back to my hotel, visiting with my driver, capped off a perfect day. I would highly recommend this day outing to others!

Response from the operator: What a beautifully described experience, we are absolutely delighted that your visit to Kiambethu Tea Farm was such a fabulous and relaxing outing. It is wonderful to hear that your day began smoothly with a punctual and pleasant driver, we truly believe the journey is just as important as the destination. From wandering through the vibrant gardens filled with flowering plants and sunbirds, to the warm welcome in Fiona’s historic family home, it sounds like you fully immersed yourself in the charm and heritage of the farm. Learning about the origins of the tea estate dating back to the early 1900s, walking through lush tea fields, watching the careful picking of the bud and top two leaves, and enjoying fresh tea with biscuits ,these are such special touches that make the experience both personal and enriching. The guided forest walk and beautifully arranged garden picnic truly complete the day in the most serene way. We are especially happy to hear that you left feeling relaxed, informed, and refreshed, that is exactly the kind of meaningful experience we aim to create at Perfect Wilderness. Thank you for your heartfelt recommendation. We would be honored to host you again for another unforgettable Kenyan experience! Regards, Lesley

    Beautiful countryside

Beautiful countryside and a great day out from the city. The lady who owns the team farm is a real character and provides really interesting information about the tea industry. The setting is amazing, a lovely garden to explore, the area where the tea grows and you are taken to a woodlands where the medical properties are explained of the trees. There is also a chance to try the tea and a three course lunch. Out of all of the day trips from nairobi in the last week it has been favourite. Steve my driver was super lovely, on time, good communication and information as well. Great day 😁

Response from the operator: Hello Janine, Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the countryside, the tea farm, and the garden walk, as well as learning about the tea industry and medicinal trees. It is also great to know that you enjoyed the tea tasting and three-course lunch. We are especially pleased that Steve helped make your day extra special and we will be sure to pass on your kind words to him. It was a pleasure having you with us, and we hope to welcome you back for another memorable experience soon! Warm regards, Clara

    Tea Farm Tour

I visited the Kiambethu Tea Farm on a misty day, which lent the plantation a sense of ethereal beauty. We began the tour with hot tea and biscuits as Fiona, the lady giving us the tour, walked us through the processing of tea and the different parts of the tea plant. My friend and I then wandered the beautiful garden infront before being served a lovely lunch. The trip was relaxing. I would recommend it to anyone.

Safe drive and wonderful informative hostess

The drive to and from Kiambethu was lovely , my driver Paul was very considerate and drove gently ( considering Nairobi traffic) he offered a choice of music, and was informative on the surroundings . Fiona is truly an inspiration . Wonderful in depth explanation on the growing , manufacturing process and shipments of the tea . The lounge was beautifully presented and served in a beautiful garden setting . All in all a very good day experience , just outside of Nairobi .

Response from the operator: Hello, Thank you for taking time to write us this wonderful review. We are delighted to read that you had an amazing tour to Kiambethu Tea Farm. This is one of the exceptional gate away plans from the busy city. After a walk in the plantations is lunch and afternoon tea as you enjoy spectacular views of seemingly endless tea fields. Fiona who is normally the guide at the tea farm, is very knowledgeable and hospitable. We are happy to read that Paul, your driver guide was an excellent guide, knowledgeable and made everything interesting. We welcome you to travel with us again in future as we explore other destinations.

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Nairobi.

How much does Private Day Trip to Kiambethu Tea Farm in Limuru from Nairobi cost?

    +

Prices start at $96 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Nairobi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Day Trip to Kiambethu Tea Farm in Limuru from Nairobi take?

    +

Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Nairobi is not rushed.

Is Private Day Trip to Kiambethu Tea Farm in Limuru from Nairobi worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 75 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 33 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Nairobi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Day Trip to Kiambethu Tea Farm in Limuru from Nairobi?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Day Trip to Kiambethu Tea Farm in Limuru from Nairobi suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Day Trip to Kiambethu Tea Farm in Limuru from Nairobi?

    +

Around 12 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Nairobi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Nairobi and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

What are the best things to do in Nairobi?

    +

On Outty we rank every Nairobi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Wild 5-Day Safari: Magical Mara, Nakuru Wonders & Hell's Gate, 2 Days Amboseli Safari using a 4x4 Landcruiser jeep(with options), Kibera Slum Tour with Lucas. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Nairobi?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Nairobi?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
