Wonderful trip across the Danube to Bulgaria
A great tour across the Danube into Bulgaria with Michael! We visited the old town of Arbanasi seeing interesting homes, the church with so many detailed paintings that are remarkably well preserved. Then we drove to Veliko Tarnovo walking to the castle then onto the church with a panoramic view of the city. Finally we had time for lunch and a visit to the city before heading back. Michael was very professional and knowledgeable and he even brought cherries from his own cherry tree for us! What a treat! Highly recommend!!!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed discovering Arbanasi and Veliko Tarnovo, from the beautifully preserved painted church to the panoramic views and time to explore the city. We especially appreciate your kind words about Michael. His professionalism, knowledge, and thoughtful gesture of bringing cherries from his own tree clearly made the day even more memorable. Thank you again for your recommendation. We will be very happy to share your lovely feedback with Michael!

Best tour ever!
Michael, the tour guide was absolutely amazing! He was one of the best tour guides I have ever had. He was knowledgeable about the history of both Romania and Bulgaria, and was more than happy to answer any questions I had. He went above and beyond to make sure the day was perfect. I would highly recommend!

Veliko Tarnovo day trip.
Floren was excellent. It was a long drive but he kept us well informed. Veliko Tarnovo was beautiful. The town was charm. We lunched over looking the valley. Spectacular.
Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing your experience! We’re so glad Florin made the long drive enjoyable with his knowledge and insights. Veliko Tarnovo is such a gem — full of charm and history — and it sounds like your lunch with a view over the valley was the perfect highlight. We hope you’ll join us again for more spectacular journeys!

Fantastic Day Trip
We recently enjoyed a fabulous day in Bulgaria, driven and accompanied by Narci who is a very friendly, personable and enthusiastic guide and a fountain of knowledge. Despite the rain, we greatly enjoyed the visit to the Rock Monastery St. Dimitar Basarbovski and later Tsarevets Fortress. A fair level of fitness is mandatory as the venues require a lot of walking and stair climbing. Had a delicious lunch in a nearby town and then made the drive back across the magnificent Friendship Bridge into Bucharest. A great day out with lovely Narci and a terrific bunch of other tourists.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We're delighted to hear you had such a memorable day exploring Bulgaria, even with a bit of rain. Marcel truly is a fantastic guide—friendly, passionate, and full of insight—and we’re thrilled he helped make the experience so enjoyable. The Rock Monastery and Tsarevets Fortress are such special places, and we're glad you appreciated them (stairs and all!). It’s great to know the group energy and lunch added to the day as well. We’d love to welcome you back for another adventure soon—maybe with a bit more sunshine next time!

Private Day Trip to Bulgaria and Veliko Tarnovo from Bucharest: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Bucharest.
How much does Private Day Trip to Bulgaria and Veliko Tarnovo from Bucharest cost?
+
Prices start at $296 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Bucharest usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Day Trip to Bulgaria and Veliko Tarnovo from Bucharest take?
+
Plan for about 10 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Bucharest is not rushed.
Is Private Day Trip to Bulgaria and Veliko Tarnovo from Bucharest worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 35 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Bucharest, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Day Trip to Bulgaria and Veliko Tarnovo from Bucharest?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private Day Trip to Bulgaria and Veliko Tarnovo from Bucharest suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 10-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private Day Trip to Bulgaria and Veliko Tarnovo from Bucharest?
+
Around 12 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Bucharest can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Bucharest and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Day Trip to Bulgaria and Veliko Tarnovo from Bucharest start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Bucharest within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Bucharest?
+
On Outty we rank every Bucharest experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Real tour of Communism, Bucharest Highlights Walking Tour, Top Gear Road, Small-group max 7 pax with Pick-up, Transfăgărăşan. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Bucharest?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Bucharest?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
