This peaceful clifftop setting offers breathtaking views across the English Channel to France and serves as a moving tribute to the heroes who defended Britain in the skies during World War II. Here you can see replicas of the legendary Spitfire and Hurricane fighter planes, and the names of the courageous pilots who achieved victory in 1940. Visit subject to opening times.

Dover Castle
We continue to the magnificent Dover Castle, one of England’s most historic and awe-inspiring fortresses. Founded in the 12th century, this medieval stronghold has long been known as the “lock and key to England” for its crucial defensive role through the centuries. You will have approximately two hours to explore its fascinating grounds and exhibitions. Step inside the medieval Great Tower, uncover the underground wartime tunnels where Operation Dynamo was planned during the evacuation of Dunkirk, and visit the ancient Roman lighthouse that has stood for nearly 2,000 years. From the castle’s ramparts, enjoy spectacular panoramic views across the English Channel to France.

Disorganized or dishonest vendor
This was the worst Viator tour I have ever been on. It was supposed to include admission to the Dover Castle and Battle of Britain memorial. Even though we showed the driver our tickets which clearly showed the Dover Castle entrance fee was included, they made my husband and I pay their company an extra $60 ($30 each) to get into the castle. The driver call his boss who said we had to pay again if we wanted to see it and sent me a link to pay the extra amount. (Even after I emailed her screenshot of my tickets saying tickets were included). While driving to the Dover castle, I message chatted with a representative from Viator who said she was opening a claim against them. I just hope that when Viator finishes investigating , I am reimbursed. Before going to the castle, and with no restroom stops, we got to The Battle of Britain Memorial and had to pay another 6 pounds each to get into the memorial in order to use the restroom. The driver was nice, but seemed unfamiliar with the excursion and provided no narration.

Bonus tour wtih a great way to get a ride to the cruise port
It was great to walk around the castle grounds and see the view out to the sea/channel. We did this tour in combination with a ride to the cruise ship from London. We were picked up promptly for the driver and started the tour. He really enjoyed talking about his country. We stopped at the world war 2 memorial and it was really cold due to the wind coming off the water. The views from the castle are breathtaking. It was cold by the castle also but still a worthy visit. Transportation from London to the port is expensive so we opted to include this tour with the ride to the port. Worth the money.
Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing your experience! We loved reading about your day with us and hope to welcome you again on any future adventures.

Highly Recommend!!
We were picked up at our hotel in London to be driven to Dover Cruise Port for a two week European Cruise. The stress was lifted from our shoulders of how to get to our ship in time. As a bonus, we opted to stop at the Dover Castle. We had plenty of time to spare.

The bus got stuck in...
The bus got stuck in Ferry Traffic we did not have tickets to get admission to Dover Castle so he dropped us off early at the cruise terminal, very disappointed in not being able to go and view the castle.

Waste of money, Disappointing, Avoid!
Viator should be ashamed of itself with its “Pre-cruise Tour from London to Dover Port via Dover Castle”. After paying $543.67 for 2 adults and 1 child, we absolutely felt had due to Viator’s DELIBERATE, false advertising and deceptive language of “via” the Dover Castle. We realize the Castle ticket was not included, but there was absolutely nothing “via” about this tour. Yes, we could look up (WAY UP) in the distance to vaguely see the Castle, but Viator is straight misleading people with this offering. I urge you, do not waste your money on this. We could’ve paid less for a private transfer and been happier.

Why this scores 49
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Pre-Cruise Tour from London to Dover Port via Dover Castle: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for London.
How much does Pre-Cruise Tour from London to Dover Port via Dover Castle cost?
+
Prices start at $153 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in London usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Pre-Cruise Tour from London to Dover Port via Dover Castle take?
+
Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in London is not rushed.
Is Pre-Cruise Tour from London to Dover Port via Dover Castle worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 49 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.9/5 across 31 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in London, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Pre-Cruise Tour from London to Dover Port via Dover Castle?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Pre-Cruise Tour from London to Dover Port via Dover Castle suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Pre-Cruise Tour from London to Dover Port via Dover Castle?
+
Around 11 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in London can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in London and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Pre-Cruise Tour from London to Dover Port via Dover Castle start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central London within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in London?
+
London's best attractions split cleanly: the museums are free and need no booking, so the paid market is about views, theatre and getting out of the city for a day. That makes value scoring unusually important here, and the Outty Ranking penalises anything charging premium prices for access you could get for nothing. On Outty we rank every London experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Soho Music & Historic Pubs Tour, London Small Group Tour of Historical Pubs, The Great British Rock and Roll Walking Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit London?
+
May to September for long evenings, December for the Christmas markets. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in London?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
