What you get

    About this experience

Pompeii is undeniably the most important archeological site in the world. An entire city perfectly preserved just like it was back in 79 A.D., when a tremendous eruption of the nearby volcano Mt. Vesuvius buried it under a deep layer of ashes and lapilli. Pompeii is very different from any other archaeological site in the world. There are ancient ruins in Rome, Greece, Egypt, Central America and other wonderful places on the planet, but in none of those except for Pompeii you can still walk down the original ancient streets and find them as lively as they were back then. You can walk in the same houses people lived in, in the same temples they prayed in and be in the same places they worked in and they had fun in. You can even still see the tracks of their carriages left on the road surface; the pipes the drinking water ran into; and last but not least, the “petrified” bodies of the victims of the eruption.

    What you'll see and do

    1. Archaeological Park of Pompeii

We will visit the most important public buildings (theatres, temples, thermal baths and more) and bring your attention on some of the most traditional Roman shops like the thermopolia - ancestor of the modern fast food restaurants - and the pistrinum - the Roman equivalent of a bakery. The city of Pompeii is also quite known for the magnificence of its residences, the names of which are renowned in the entire world: the House of Menander, the House of the Faun, the House of the Vettii, the House of Caecilius Iucundus and many more. We will be in some of those fantastic dwellings and also walk down “Via dell'Abbondanza” (the main street), the Forum (the main town square) and the famous “red-light district” and its suggestive wall paintings. Lastly, a special focus will be put onto the poor victims of the eruption, appearing as petrified bodies.

    Excellent tour of Pompeii

Francesco was an excellent tour guide, we had an incredible time and learned so much. He's very knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, and a very talented storyteller. We would strongly recommend him.

Response from the operator: Dear visitor, we're really proud of our tour guide and so happy for this review. Thank you so much for the kind words, we hope we'll see you again.

FANTASTIC POMPEII TOUR (AGAIN WITH THIS TOUR GUIDES)

Having booked previously we booked the POMPEII trip and once again received a fantastic tour with Francesco, a different tour guide, but again a fantastic overview of the POMPEII site and the Vesuvius eruption. Personally for me the small group tour or in this case we were lucky to have a private tour is essential, the knowledge and more importantly where to go is a must have - the site is massive and technically you could wander around looking at a load of "old bricks" and get lost - the guided tour therefore a must IMO and with this tour company you will get an excellent tour of the sites.

Response from the operator: Dear visitor, thank you so much for recommending us, for the very nice words about our tour and for choosing us again. We really appreciate it a lot. Our tour guides always do their best and your words really show that. Thank you.

Unexpected additional cost to switch to a private tour with guide

It was a bit disappointed that the tour operator texted me 2 days before the tour predict no other participants for our tour and advised us to switch to a private tour with another additional payment of $60. Including requirement to buy our own entry truckers, it costed us much more than planned to visited the attraction “Pompeii Ruins”.

Response from the operator: Dear visitor, it’s specified in the tour description that the tour is canceled if the minimum number of participants has not been met as well as it specified that the entry tickets are not included. We texted you only 2 days before the tour to wait as much as possible for new bookings, and we believe that 2 days are long enough to let you arrange the tour with a different tour operator if our tour is canceled. Moreover, we proposed a solution and you accepted, a full refund would have been much easier and cheaper for us and, honestly, it's now sad to hear that this solution didn't make you happy. We apologize if you don't consider your experience with us worthy of a 5-star review, but we are sure it’s due to misunderstanding.

    Great group tour

Francesco did a wonderful job. He made an amazing place even more interesting with his explanations of the sights. He had an informed answer for every question we had. Not to mention, he gave us great advice about other places to visit in the area. I will choose his services every time I bring a group to the area.

Response from the operator: Dear visitor, it's really a pleasure to hear such good words from you. We really appreciate your nice feedback about our tour guide and we hope we'll see you soon again. Thank you so much.

Pompeii Small Group Guided Tour with Skip-the-line Admission: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Pompeii.

How much does Pompeii Small Group Guided Tour with Skip-the-line Admission cost?

    +

Prices start at $82 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Pompeii usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Pompeii Small Group Guided Tour with Skip-the-line Admission take?

    +

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Pompeii is not rushed.

Is Pompeii Small Group Guided Tour with Skip-the-line Admission worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 68 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 18 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Pompeii, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Pompeii Small Group Guided Tour with Skip-the-line Admission?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Pompeii Small Group Guided Tour with Skip-the-line Admission suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Pompeii Small Group Guided Tour with Skip-the-line Admission?

    +

Around 6 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Pompeii can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Pompeii and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Pompeii Small Group Guided Tour with Skip-the-line Admission start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Pompeii within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Pompeii?

    +

On Outty we rank every Pompeii experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Premium Minivan Trip from Rome: Pompeii Tour & Lunch in Sorrento, Skip the Line Guided Tour of Pompeii Led by an Archaeologist, Explore Pompeii with an Archaeologist. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Pompeii?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Pompeii?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
