Great for beginners!

The overall experience was fantastic for someone who has never scuba dived before. They were thorough in the beginning lesson before we headed out in the boat. The staff we were with were wonderful and patient and made me feel more comfortable with the experience. My husband really enjoyed the underwater sites! The only issue I had was the lack of communication leading up to the day of the excursion. They told us to report to a specific hotel at 9am. The timing was different than what the description on their ad says so I messaged them again the day before the event to confirm the time and was told to report at 8am to a different hotel that was twice the distance from the first. This changed our travel drastically as we went from planning a cab ride to having to rent a car because the cost of the cab there and back would have been more than the car rental. More advanced notice would have been helpful and less stressful for us. If I hadn’t messaged them about the time discrepancy, we would have missed out on the experience completely because they didn’t communicate with us.

Terrific first dive

Alex was a very patient but thorough instructor. I recommend diving here for any first time divers like myself. Lots of beautiful things to see

An Awesome Experience

I thoroughly enjoyed my scuba diving experience. My diving instructor was kind & patient, and his encouraging words helped me get past sea sickness while I was on the ocean surface. Yes, if you are prone to sea sickness, I highly suggest you take Dramamine prior to launching out on the dive boat. Once under the waves, my sea sickness vanished, and my eyes widen with wonder and joy, as I beheld colorful corral & fish as I followed my instructor’s lead. I definitely have to scuba dive again— & eventually earn my diving certification. The beauty & serenity of the ocean compels me to make it happen— no lie. -D. Newson-

Incredible dive experience

An incredible experience. With a clear structure and emphasise on safety at no point did I have concerns. The team were welcoming and friendly and Nicole was a great dive leader. A small group size made sure we were supervised all the time and it was clear that we had to be able to complete safety drills in the pool before we were going to go out on the dive boat. The reef was incredible and I would recommend putting your hand in your pocket and buying the video and images taken off your dive as they are a great quality and memory of a fantastic morning.

Bad business

We were supposed to get picked up at our hotel but a day before we were supposed to go I go to viator website to ask what time we were getting picked up only to see a message about us getting a taxi to another hotel..I tried calling it the number didn’t work so we called viator customer service..then we get a message saying they don’t come to our hotel because we were in Cancun..we weren’t we were at the Bahia principe Akumal…I asked for hotel pick up and. Didn’t even get an option of paying the extra $20 which we would have paid…needless to say we didn’t get help from anyone and couldn’t go because we were not paying for a taxi when we asked for pick up…we definitely don’t recommend this place because we picked it because they offered hotel pick up only for them not to give it to us…

Response from the operator: Dear Deborah, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We value our customers' opinions, and thank you for bringing this to our attention. I am sorry for the inconvenience you experienced; however, our records in your account indicate that events did not occur as you described. We have checked our call logs and haven't received any calls from you, nor did we mention we could not pick you up because you were in Cancun. You indicated that we refused to provide the service; however, In our listing, it is mentioned that picks up are available but that exceptions may apply. We sent you a message via the Viator Application (as Viator does not share customers' emails with us) to inform you that we could not exceptionally provide the pick-up service, a few days before the tour. Unfortunately, we only received an answer from you very late the day before the activity. Again, thank you for your feedback. Sincerely Pro Dive Team

PADI Discover Scuba Diving Program in the Riviera Maya: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Playa del Carmen.

How much does PADI Discover Scuba Diving Program in the Riviera Maya cost?

+

Prices start at $126 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Playa del Carmen usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does PADI Discover Scuba Diving Program in the Riviera Maya take?

+

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Playa del Carmen is not rushed.

Is PADI Discover Scuba Diving Program in the Riviera Maya worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 71 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 67 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Playa del Carmen, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule PADI Discover Scuba Diving Program in the Riviera Maya?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is PADI Discover Scuba Diving Program in the Riviera Maya suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 10. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 4-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book PADI Discover Scuba Diving Program in the Riviera Maya?

+

Around 23 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Playa del Carmen can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Playa del Carmen and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does PADI Discover Scuba Diving Program in the Riviera Maya start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Playa del Carmen within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Playa del Carmen?

+

On Outty we rank every Playa del Carmen experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include VIP Chichen Itza Private Tour, VIP Tulum Private Tour, Chichen Itza Private Tour VIP. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Playa del Carmen?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Playa del Carmen?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
