What you get

    About this experience

Most visitors to Oaxaca never experience the city’s nighttime food scene when neighbourhood grills fire up, late-night vendors appear, and regional specialities take centre stage. This tour dives straight into the dishes locals actually eat after dark, far from restaurant dining rooms and tourist-focused menus. With 14+ tastings across 7–8 authentic stops, you’ll sample everything from lechón tacos and oversized tlayudas to mole-filled tamales, tetelas, garnachas, and mezcal-soaked sweets. These are real neighbourhood spots, beloved by locals and largely unknown to travellers. It’s a flavour-packed, after-hours look at Oaxaca’s culinary identity, and the most authentic way to experience the city at night.

    What you'll see and do

    1. Oaxaca

Our Oaxaca food tour offers guests a culinary experience around the city's medina. It's a carefully curated food adventure, led by our team of Oaxaca tastemakers. Before we get started, our tour reflects the local cuisine, and the limitations of street food vendors and local eateries mean we cannot cater for every dietary restriction. Here's an honest appraisal for the tour, so no-one is disappointed: ✘ Unsuitable for vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian and no pork diets as the number of tastings would be very limited. ✔ Gluten intolerance, lactose intolerance, mild nut allergies and no seafood diets are possible, though some tastings do not have alternatives available If you are feeling adventurous for a foodie journey, read on!

The tour begins with classic street foods such as cheesy campechano tacos, tangy piedrazo served with quesillo, and earthy tetelas filled with huitlacoche. As the walk continues, you’ll sample bolder dishes including crisp garnachas, rich tamales de mole, tender tacos de cabeza, and slow-cooked lechón served in both tacos and tortas. Later tastings include Oaxaca’s iconic tlayuda topped with tasajo, smoky grilled tortillas with meat. Must do!!!

Come hungry! We were so full by the end of the tour but so worth it because everything was delicious. Alejandra was a great guide and shared a lot of history of both the food we were eating and Oaxaca. 10/10 would recommend!

    Street food tour

There is a lot of food to taste, so as the advertisement suggests, come hungry, heed the advice and be prepared to have a lot of food to try.

    Incredible tour

One of the best food tastings I've ever done and a perfect way to get to know Mexico's food capital of Oaxaca! Alejandra was an incredible guide who took the time to explain the history and stories behind each dish and led us around the city of Oaxaca to show us local and delicious spots.

    Great food tour

Such a great tour to have an overview of the gastronomy of Oaxaca. Our guide Dora was so knowledgeable about the food and places we visited. There were 14+ tasting, I was so fulled at the end of the tour that I was afraid of getting into a food coma. Highly recommended if you are in Oaxaca. If you get Dora as your guide you are in for a great experience.

    Excellent Tour!!!!

Dora was an excellent host and tour guide! She was very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. We tried many delicious food and drink specialties, most of which were from small street vendors, which is always the best (support small business). I would definitely recommend anyone visiting Oaxaca to experience this wonderful tour

Oaxaca Streets Food Tour with 14+ Tastings: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Oaxaca City.

How much does Oaxaca Streets Food Tour with 14+ Tastings cost?

    +

Prices start at $69 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Oaxaca City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Oaxaca Streets Food Tour with 14+ Tastings take?

    +

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Oaxaca City is not rushed.

Is Oaxaca Streets Food Tour with 14+ Tastings worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 76 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 20 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Oaxaca City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Oaxaca Streets Food Tour with 14+ Tastings?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Oaxaca Streets Food Tour with 14+ Tastings suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Oaxaca Streets Food Tour with 14+ Tastings?

    +

Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Oaxaca City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Oaxaca City and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Oaxaca Streets Food Tour with 14+ Tastings start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Oaxaca City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Oaxaca City?

    +

On Outty we rank every Oaxaca City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include AUTHENTIC OAXACA CULTURAL FOOD TOUR, eat like a local., Hierve el Agua 2.5 hours, Mitla, Tule, Rugs and Mezcal for a Day, Traditional Oaxaqueña Cooking with Grandma's Recipes. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Oaxaca City?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Oaxaca City?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
