He was very kind and friendly with us and the foods and places he shared with us were delicious and authentic. I would recommend this experience to anyone who likes food and enjoys Mexican culture.

    Excellent survey of Oaxacan foods

Great tour of the street foods of Oaxaca. The guide, Gregorio was engaging and knowledgeable about Oaxaca and its food traditions. We sampled a wide variety of items all of great quality — and provided with detailed historical and ingredient information. Most importantly Gregorio was a fun host with a passion for the food artisans of his home town! Highly recommended!

We’re glad Gregorio’s knowledge of Oaxaca’s food traditions and the people behind them added so much to the experience. We appreciate the recommendation and hope to have you back for more of Oaxaca’s best places to eat.

    Authentic Oaxaca Experience

We have been to food tours in many different countries, and this one now tops our list. First, our guide, Goyo, was so kind and fun and truly passionate not only about the food but also his home and culture. I feel like I left the tour knowing so much more about Oaxaca. It felt more authentic than many tours like I was looking through a secret window into Oaxaca that not everyone gets to see. This tour is great, and it’s very easy to see that a lot of careful thought and planning has gone into making it a great experience. Please don’t eat one bite of food before you go. You will leave so full but so happy! Thank you Goyo for many unforgettable moments!

Response from the operator: Thanks for joining Club Tengo Hambre on our Oaxaca Street Food Essentials tour. Hearing that it tops your list after taking food tours worldwide means a lot to us. We’re glad Goyo shared a bit of his Oaxaca with you and that the care behind the experience came through. Thanks for trusting CTH with your Oaxaca itinerary, and yes, coming hungry is essential!

Oaxaca Street Food Essentials: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Oaxaca City.

How much does Oaxaca Street Food Essentials cost?

    +

Prices start at $90 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Oaxaca City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Oaxaca Street Food Essentials take?

    +

Plan for about 3.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Oaxaca City is not rushed.

Is Oaxaca Street Food Essentials worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 72 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 42 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Oaxaca City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Oaxaca Street Food Essentials?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Oaxaca Street Food Essentials suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Oaxaca Street Food Essentials?

    +

Around 15 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Oaxaca City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Oaxaca City and add a light layer if any part of the 3.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Oaxaca Street Food Essentials start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Oaxaca City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Oaxaca City?

    +

On Outty we rank every Oaxaca City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include AUTHENTIC OAXACA CULTURAL FOOD TOUR, eat like a local., Hierve el Agua 2.5 hours, Mitla, Tule, Rugs and Mezcal for a Day, Traditional Oaxaqueña Cooking with Grandma's Recipes. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Oaxaca City?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Oaxaca City?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
