Very immersive and well...
Very immersive and well organized experience! Tour operators reached out to me several days beforehand on WhatsApp to provide details and logistics, which were executed on time (pick up logistics, event expectations, etc) for a group of about 20 people. Josefat, Fernando, and Luis were very knowledgeable and amazing tour guides who helped explain the history and importance of each aspect around the Dia de Muertos celebration. Each event in itself was noteworthy - favorites being xoxocotlan cemetery visit, marigold field visit, being part of the Etla comparsas, visit to Monte Alban, and being hosted by a local family for some meals and building their offends - and all events felt like we had enough time to properly enjoy. The small group number was perfect - it helped us get to know others on the tour from around the world, blend into large crowds to not stand out too much, and be herded around together easily the crowded areas; the tour group has a large and tall totem they carry around to help orient everyone to home base. Highly recommend basing yout trip for Dia de Muertos in Oaxaca around the available dates for this tour as it gave us the full cultural immersive experience we were looking for in a limited amount of time while feeling safe under the wings of the tour guides!

An incredible, immersive experience!
Wow! What an immersive experience! Day 1 included stops by a local home where we were served hot chocolate and bread, then we had a short drive to a field of marigolds and a local market where we harvested flowers and other items for the family Offrenda. We returned to the home where we were served lunch and allowed to assist the family in building their offering table. We returned to our hotel where we had a short rest then met our tour guide for the drive to the XoXo Cotlan cemetery, the largest in Oaxaca. We were allowed a few hours in the cemetery and were given flowers and candles to place on some graves. This was a somber and moving experience. Day 2 included a tour of Monte Alban, with our amazing guide Josafath, who is a wealth of knowledge and loves his job! After several hours there we were driven to the small village of Etla, which was the highlight of the tour for me. We joined the locals and a marching band going house to house in parade fashion. We danced and drank mezcal in the most amazing local, cultural experience and ended the evening at the home of a local family where we were served a full dinner.

Great experience, long day
The experience of gathering flowers and helping create an altar was interesting and the trip to the cemetery in the evening was exactly what I hoped to experience. The only negative was that with a group of 30 people everything took too long. People would scatter and the guides spent time trying to gather everyone back together.
