    1. Napa Valley Wine Train

Travel through the lush Napa Valley countryside and be transported back in time. Back to the romance and luxury of the golden age of train travel of the early 1900s, when guests explored the trains beyond their private quarters. Back to a time when a journey was meant to be savored from start to finish. Choose the Gourmet Express for lunch, when the sun is bright and high in the sky. Or for something even more romantic, join us onboard for evening dinner. Would not recommend

The food was good, the service was good but the train ride was terrible. I traveled from AZ for this & about 45 min until the ride they said they had to change the engine and we’d be back on the planned route after 30 min. More than an hour later, we got a new engine but they took us back to the station with no immediate refund or compensation.

Response from the operator: Good Afternoon, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We sincerely apologize that a mechanical issue altered your itinerary. While our team worked quickly to resolve the situation, we understand how disappointing it was not to enjoy the full experience you had planned. Our onboard team provided updates throughout the delay, and compensation was provided for all affected guests. If you have not yet received your compensation, please reach out to our Guest Services team so we can assist in ensuring it is received. We truly appreciate your kind comments about the food and service, and we hope you'll consider giving us another opportunity to provide the complete Napa Valley Wine Train experience. Cute but overpriced

Most of the experience was great overall because it is unique, staff were friendly, kind, helpful, and it is definitely cute and aesthetically pleasing. In my opinion it is overpriced. For lunch we order the surf and turf but it was the portion size of something a toddler would have eaten and still would have been hungry...and for the amount of money that was paid for the ticket, it was disappointing. We were also disappointed with the views. It seemed like most of the trip were sites of the slums of Napa. We saw lots of trailers, homeless laying about, trash cans and graffiti. If you take a drive down St. Helena highway, you get the same views of the wineries. The price would have been more justifiable if some wine or a small tasting was included. After all, it is a "wine train". They did provide one champagne flute of a sweet sparkling wine but, all other wine was for purchase. Lastly, if your table attendant recommends a wine, be sure to look at the menu or ask how much because it may be $30 a glass and you won't know until the bill comes. All in all, for almost $400 a ticket, it was not worth it. If I had to accurately value the experience, I would say it was only worth $275 at most.

Response from the operator: Good morning, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your Napa Valley Wine Train experience. We’re pleased to hear you enjoyed the hospitality from our team and found the experience to be unique and memorable in many respects. We also appreciate your candid comments regarding the perceived value, culinary portions, and overall expectations for the journey. The beginning portion of our route does travel through the town of Napa, including the Railroad Arts District, where local artists have helped transform the corridor with murals and public art before the train transitions into the heart of wine country. Much of the experience is intentionally designed at a leisurely pace, allowing guests to enjoy the scenery, historic wineries, culinary offerings, and the opportunity to simply relax while we do the driving. Thank you again for sharing your perspective and for recognizing the efforts of our team. Feedback such as yours is valuable as we continue to evaluate and refine the experiences we provide. Napa Valley Wine Train with Gourmet Lunch: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Napa & Sonoma.

How much does Napa Valley Wine Train with Gourmet Lunch cost?

    +

Prices start at $278 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Napa & Sonoma usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Napa Valley Wine Train with Gourmet Lunch take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Napa & Sonoma is not rushed.

Is Napa Valley Wine Train with Gourmet Lunch worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 62 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.4/5 across 424 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable food & drink in Napa & Sonoma, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Napa Valley Wine Train with Gourmet Lunch?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Napa Valley Wine Train with Gourmet Lunch suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Napa Valley Wine Train with Gourmet Lunch?

    +

Around 148 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Napa & Sonoma can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Napa & Sonoma and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Napa Valley Wine Train with Gourmet Lunch start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Napa & Sonoma within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Napa & Sonoma?

    +

Napa and Sonoma are all about how a tour is put together: which wineries it can actually book, how many stops, whether lunch and tasting fees are included, and whether it lifts off in a balloon at sunrise. We weight inclusions and transparency heavily in the ranking here. On Outty we rank every Napa & Sonoma experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Napa Valley Small Group Winery Tour, #1 Sonoma Walking Food, Wine Tasting & History Tour (Public Tour), Sonoma Valley Pedal Assist Bike Tour with Lunch. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Napa & Sonoma?

    +

March to May and September to November, with harvest crush in September. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Napa & Sonoma?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
