    Not what we expected

We booked this particular tour as it was on a trolley to 3 vineyards. The night before we were due to leave we received a message saying the trolley wasn’t working so we’d be on a bus instead. This was so disappointing, as we were already booked on a bus tour the following day. We paid $120 each for this trolley tour and they only offered a $20 refund to compensate for the fact the trolley wasn’t working. Also once we arrived at each winery we had to pay additional to get in a taste the wines. This wasn’t made clear when booking. So basically we spent an extra $300 on top of the original booking for the trolley. We could have done this using uber or taxis at a lesser cost. The frustrating part was that the driver told us the trolley was running the next day and yet we wasn’t offered the opportunity to ride on that one. Also note that they state the pick up was at 6525 Washington street and yet the driver of the bus was waiting one block further down so it took 30 minutes to find the driver. So, whilst we had a good day we left feeling very disappointed in this actual trip, as the tour is offered as a trolley tour not a bus tour.

Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to leave a detailed review of your experience. We apologize for the alternate vehicle, as we understand that the open-air trolley is what makes our tour unique. We do compensate for the switch with a partial $20 refund per ticket, as is comparable with other wine tours. We also, despite the no-refund policy, offer a full refund if you should choose to no longer go on the tour if the open-air trolley was your sole reason for booking our tour. Our ticket cost includes the transportation, guided tour, and lunch. It is stated upon booking that winery fees are an additional cost; although our partner wineries provide our guests private experiences at discounted costs. While there was a trolley operating, it was the Classic Napa Valley tour and not the tour that visits the Castle. We sincerely apologize that our tour did not meet your expectations. Regards.

    Hosts were nice and...

Hosts were nice and helpful. The castle was the highlight id the 3 stops!! You can opt out of the tastings if you wish. The lunch spit was delish! The second two wineries were less impressive. Would be nice to add a stop that includes a tour of the vineyard!

Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and provide the invaluable feedback on how we can improve our tours. We're glad that you enjoyed the castle and lunch. Cheers!

Fun way to explore some wineries!

We really enjoyed our time on the Trolley Castle Tour. The weather was perfect for a day spent riding around the Napa area to various wineries and lunch. The wine tasting at Castello di Amorosa was very enjoyable, so much so that we never made it to roam around the Castle at all, but can say the grounds and surrounding area is beautiful. Our wine tasting host had a great personality and we enjoyed visiting with him, and ultimately got some delicious wine to take home. We stopped for a pizza lunch at Tra Vigne that was prompt and delicious and headed on to another couple of tastings. We really enjoyed the presentation given by the host at Bougetz Cellars. Our trolley guide was full of interesting information along the way, making the trip even more enjoyable.

Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to leave a detailed review. We're glad that you had an enjoyable day on the Napa Valley Wine Trolley. Cheers!

    Vacation Wine Train event

The wine Train had great personal services all the way from the check-in service , to train boarding and staff on board the train.

Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to leave a review; however, this is the Napa Valley Wine Trolley review page. I'm sure the Wine Train would be glad to see this on their review site. Cheers!

Napa Valley Wine Trolley Castle Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Napa & Sonoma.

How much does Napa Valley Wine Trolley Castle Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $145 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Napa & Sonoma usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Napa Valley Wine Trolley Castle Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 6.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Napa & Sonoma is not rushed.

Is Napa Valley Wine Trolley Castle Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 71 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.3/5 across 309 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Napa & Sonoma, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Napa Valley Wine Trolley Castle Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Napa Valley Wine Trolley Castle Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Napa Valley Wine Trolley Castle Tour?

    +

Around 108 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Napa & Sonoma can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Napa & Sonoma and add a light layer if any part of the 6.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Napa Valley Wine Trolley Castle Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Napa & Sonoma within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Napa & Sonoma?

    +

Napa and Sonoma are all about how a tour is put together: which wineries it can actually book, how many stops, whether lunch and tasting fees are included, and whether it lifts off in a balloon at sunrise. We weight inclusions and transparency heavily in the ranking here. On Outty we rank every Napa & Sonoma experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Napa Valley Small Group Winery Tour, #1 Sonoma Walking Food, Wine Tasting & History Tour (Public Tour), Sonoma Valley Pedal Assist Bike Tour with Lunch. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Napa & Sonoma?

    +

March to May and September to November, with harvest crush in September. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Napa & Sonoma?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
