Not great but not bad
The train was an hour late, I feel like this was an over priced experience as the food was only okay and no seasoning, for the amount we paid I was expecting a way better experience. All and all this was a experience and I guess that’s what you pay for
Response from the operator: Good Afternoon Jessica, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry that your experience did not fully meet the expectations you had for your Napa Valley Wine Train journey. We appreciate your comments and will share them with our culinary and operations teams as we continue to look for ways to enhance every aspect of the guest experience. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and provide the memorable journey we strive to create for every guest. Nice experience but double the cost of what it should be.
Very cute historic train. Half of the trip you look at middle class homes and trailer houses. Then you do see wineries but one field after another of vines isn't that special. The dinner was ok. Probably worth $75 per person. The employees were good. Experience overall was fine. But it was not worth $300 per person. Probably worth half that.
Response from the operator: Good Morning, Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective. We’re pleased to hear there were aspects of the experience you enjoyed, particularly the service from our team. We also appreciate your candid feedback regarding value and scenery, as it helps us better understand how guests view the overall journey. We’re grateful you chose to visit and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back again. Respectfully, Ragina Garcia Director of Customer Service Napa Valley Wine Train

A great night out
Awesome ride - we've ridden trains in 26 states. This is a first class operation. Easy to make a reservation, very nice waiting room before boarding the train. The train itself is well preserved, the host was exceptionally friendly and helpful in explaining the history of the valley and the wineries along the way. Food was outstanding. Highly recommend for a great night out.
Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to share such wonderful feedback. We are so happy to see you enjoyed your journey with us and hope to see you on the train again should your travels bring you back our way. Absolutely - BOOK THIS! 100%
WOW! My husband and I chose the shorter, 3 hour train ride from Napa to St. Helena and back in the dining car with the 3 course gourmet meal and it was FANTASTIC. The views were spectacular, the train ride was so cool, the server was AMAZING as was all of the food!! So much flavor, and the portions were perfect. We are simple, regular people from Nebraska, and were a little worried that it would be too "gourmet" to taste good for "meat n potatoes" kind of folks, but we took a chance - and I tell you this food was delicious. Absolutely. SO GOOD. The cost of the experience was very reasonable considering all that you get. I tried the Millionaire's Coffee off of the drinks menu which was so, so yummy. Such a wonderful, unforgettable experience. We highly recommend it! Afterwards, we booked a tour of a local winery and the caves with a tasting, which was great as well. A perfect day.
Response from the operator: Good afternoon, I am delighted to hear that you had a wonderful day with us. I have shared your kind words with our onboard team and hope to welcome you again soon for a future occasion. Best regards, Christelle Napa Valley Wine Train

Why this scores 42
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Napa Valley Wine Train with Gourmet Dinner: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Napa & Sonoma.
How much does Napa Valley Wine Train with Gourmet Dinner cost?
+
Prices start at $278 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Napa & Sonoma usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Napa Valley Wine Train with Gourmet Dinner take?
+
Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Napa & Sonoma is not rushed.
Is Napa Valley Wine Train with Gourmet Dinner worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 42 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.7/5 across 65 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable food & drink in Napa & Sonoma, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Napa Valley Wine Train with Gourmet Dinner?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Napa Valley Wine Train with Gourmet Dinner suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Napa Valley Wine Train with Gourmet Dinner?
+
Around 23 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Napa & Sonoma can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Napa & Sonoma and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Napa Valley Wine Train with Gourmet Dinner start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Napa & Sonoma within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Napa & Sonoma?
+
Napa and Sonoma are all about how a tour is put together: which wineries it can actually book, how many stops, whether lunch and tasting fees are included, and whether it lifts off in a balloon at sunrise. We weight inclusions and transparency heavily in the ranking here. On Outty we rank every Napa & Sonoma experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Napa Valley Small Group Winery Tour, #1 Sonoma Walking Food, Wine Tasting & History Tour (Public Tour), Sonoma Valley Pedal Assist Bike Tour with Lunch. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Napa & Sonoma?
+
March to May and September to November, with harvest crush in September. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Napa & Sonoma?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
