    2. Civita di Bagnoregio

Civita di Bagnoregio is located in Tuscia on the border between Tuscany and Lazio. Discover and Visit the dying city. It is called the dying city because the land on which it stands is slowly falling away and will inevitably disappear when the final pieces crumble into the spectacular Valle dei Calanchi below. Knowing this and knowing that nothing can be done to prevent it makes your visit all the more special, eternal and timeless. Be one of the last people to visit the village before it ceases to exist. Connected to the rest of the world by a three hundred meter bridge, Civita di Bagnoregio is a charming village which will make you feel you are visiting a world that no longer exists. Made up of old houses, narrow streets and surrounded by beautiful landscapes, walk through this magnificently unique setting. The Romanesque Arch at the entrance to Civita was built by the Etruscans 2,500 years ago and all that remains of the Renaissance Palace is the facade, the rest collapsed into the canyon. Visit the largest Piazza: the site of donkey races on the first Sunday of June and the second Sunday of September. In the evening, the piazza is the place to be, as what’s left of the town socialises there. Visit Maria’s Garden, follow the main road to the far side of town to see a lovely garden with canyon views. After that transfer to Orvieto

Absolutely fantastic tour and guide Mirko

This was a fantastic tour - turned out to be almost a private tour as one couple did not show up and the other couple did a slightly different tour. We toured the Duomo in Orvieto / they toured the crypts (I think). Because we finished before they did out guide - Mirko - took us to a lovely little wine store where we had a fantastic cheese platter and two glasses of wine at Bottega Vera (provided for us). The lost city was spectacular - again we finished before the other couple so we enjoyed another glass of wine (on us). I would highly recommend this excursion and for sure ask for Mirko.

    The dying city... maybe!!

We thought we would find a village where the important thing was to keep the construction as intact as possible over time, but instead we found ourselves in a vortex of people, B&Bs, restaurants, bars, a perfumery, souvenir shops, leather goods and food shops, we felt like we were in a shopping centre. the important thing is to do business. They gave it 50 years of life and then it was destined to disappear... but I have my doubts... it makes it too much.

Response from the operator: quindi esattamente quale sarebbe la nostra responsabilità??? dovevamo far evacuare le persone così potevate contemplare il paesaggio?? ma per favore siate seri

Stunning views and a traditional lunch

At my wife's invitation, I signed up for this tour to visit the place that was the model for the Ghibli movie "Laputa". There were other similar tours, but there was no extra charge because they included all the lunch and admission tickets. I chose this tour because it is also attractive to visit Oliviero. The meeting point is easily reached by train from Rome. The price was also reasonable at 10 euros for two adults. For lunch, Andrea, our guide and driver, prepared a special table for us and we enjoyed a local Italian restaurant. The sightseeing tour was great. I had no trouble enjoying my time with the guide. At lunch, I learned a lot about cooking and wine tasting, and I was really happy. At the end of the tour, they drove us to the nearest station. My wife and I were very satisfied. The language is English, but if you are not good at it, you can proceed with everything without any problems with your smartphone.

    Beautiful day outside of Rome!

What a wonderful excursion when looking to do something fun outside of Rome! Our tour guide Andrea was so knowledgable about the history of the beautiful countryside we drove through from our cruise ship in port! The Dying City was nothing short of magical. The walk to the city up the bridge was relatively short with wonderful views of the valley. Charming buildings, churches, to walk around and see- little umbrelled cafes are dotted throughout the village with cascading flowers and cute shops. Incredible visit to a town built in the 1300’s! On to the beautiful town of Orivietto , also perched hilltop with stunning views! Typical Italian charming cobblestone streets, churches, lots of shopping and had an incredible lunch with Andrea there as he continued his story telling of the towns history. Had extra time and he took us to his beautiful hometown on the beach! Andrea was a pleasure to have gotten as our tour guide and we highly recommend requesting him! Thank you for a sensational day in the Italian countryside!

The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Lake Bracciano?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Lake Bracciano?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
