What you get

    About this experience

Dear guests, this one-day shore excursion from the port of Civitavecchia is designed for travelers who have already visited Rome and want to explore beautiful countryside, taste authentic food and wine. The Umbria region is one of the most stunning in Italy and is often called "the green heart of Italy" because of its vast, open green fields and pristine, untouched landscape. Not to mention the charming small medieval villages full of treasures. Orvieto is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful medieval towns, and Civita di Bagnoregio is both a marvel of civil engineering and a natural wonder. It’s called the "dying city" because the natural erosion of the hillside has completely isolated the village from the outside world.

    What you'll see and do

    1. Civita di Bagnoregio

This charming little town was founded by the Etruscans around 2500 years ago on top of a hill formed by “tufa” stone. The area must have been really different in those days. The natural erosion and earthquakes have really changed the town, with a lot less space on the hilltop than it originally had. In 1695, one of those earthquakes destroyed the sort of natural bridge that linked Civita to the bugger nearby the town of Bagnoregio. The natural erosion hasn't stopped, and the sides of the hill keep crumbling down; therefore, they call Civita “ the dying city”. Civita, like an island, is connected by a narrow walkway to reality and to the surrounding countryside; it takes us far away, not so much in distance as in time...

Originally excavated more than 3 thousand years ago by the Etruscan to tap the water. Afterward, became a refuge for people due to barbaric invasions. Then, in the first half of the 1900s used as a fridge.
