What you'll see and do
Misty Fjords National Monument
Alaska's Inside Passage or Southeast Alaska is home to some of the most breathtaking scenery on earth. One of its jewels is the majestic Misty Fjords National Monument. Completely road-less and consisting of 2.3 million acres, an area larger than Yellowstone, makes a seaplane tour the only way to comfortably experience the many different levels within the deep, narrow fjords. More dramatic than the Grand Canyon, the fjords are steep walled inlets of the sea. Created by glacial gouging long ago, snow capped, sheer granite cliffs rise dramatically 3,500 out of the sea, ribbonned with waterfalls plummeting sensationally thousands of feet. Nestled within the steep walled canyons, lie pristine bowl-shaped alpine lakes suspended at many different elevations above sea level. Fed by more than 150 inches of misty rain annually, the lush rain forest, made of giant stands of spruce, hemlock and cedar, cling to the rugged rising terrain. Wildlife abounds in the area, with mountain goats and harbor seals being the most frequently sighted animals. Our most popular tour lasts 2 hours and takes you across Revilliagegedo Island over to the Alaskan mainland where the fjords are located, and into the heart of the monument. Headsets with voice communication are provided to passengers so you can chat in flight and ask questions as we fly. For the highlight of the tour, we will land on an alpine lake or on a calm bay at sea level and let passengers get off of the floatplane for a quiet excursion. Relax, stretch your legs and take some photos as you drink in the silence of the vast wilderness. Flying within the Misty Fjords is truly an emotional experience you’ll never forget!!

We enjoyed this seaplane...
We enjoyed this seaplane trip very much. The pilot was very professional and put everyone at ease before we even got on the plane. The plane ride was smooth taking off and landing on the water as well as flying around the beautiful Misty Fjords. Lots of photo and video opportunities. We even landed in a lake surrounded by mountains that is only accessible by plane...very cool. Would definitely recommend.

ABSOLUTELY BREATHTAKING!!
Everything about this tour was incredible! Booking was very easy and stress free. Michelle was our pilot and was amazing. She was very informative about the area and what we were seeing as we flew. She has a great story on how she be came a pilot too. We had never been on a seaplane before and the take off and landing were so smooth. It was so cool to take off and land on the water. There was also a family of 4 with us. My husband and I were in the back of the plane but were still able to get great views and photos during the flight. The fjords were absolutely breathtaking. I couldn't stop taking photos! We lucked out with amazing weather too. We went earlier in the season it was fun to have some snow still on the mountains. I highly recommend doing the longer tour and taking the time to be able to land in the Fjords. Michelle takes you to a spot that is pretty narrow so you really can appreciate the size and majesty of the mountains. I can't say enough good things about this tour. It was well worth the money and one of the highlights from our Alaskan cruise.

Wonderful Scenery
Great trip! Adam, our pilot/guide did a nice job telling us about the Fjords and showings us the sights. We set down on a lake and got out on a rock and walked around, he also is a pretty good photographer! I highly recommend this excursion!

Why this scores 69
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Misty Fjords Seaplane Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Ketchikan.
How much does Misty Fjords Seaplane Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $450 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Ketchikan usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Misty Fjords Seaplane Tour take?
+
Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Ketchikan is not rushed.
Is Misty Fjords Seaplane Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 69 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 262 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Ketchikan, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Misty Fjords Seaplane Tour?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Misty Fjords Seaplane Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Misty Fjords Seaplane Tour?
+
Around 92 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Ketchikan can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Ketchikan and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Misty Fjords Seaplane Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Ketchikan within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Ketchikan?
+
Ketchikan runs short, cruise-timed excursions: Misty Fjords floatplane flights, Tongass rainforest zip lines, totem park tours, crab feasts and wildlife boats up the Behm Canal. On Outty we rank every Ketchikan experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Ketchikan Kayak Eco-Tour, Off the Beaten Path Ketchikan Photo Safari - 3 hr., Ketchikan Shore Excursion: Rainforest Canopy Ropes and Zipline Adventure Park. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Ketchikan?
+
May to September, matching the Alaska cruise season. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Ketchikan?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
