Cooking Experience with Authentik Tours

What a fantastic experience this was! We were in Puerto Vallarta via a cruise ship and wanted to do a local cooking experience while in port instead of a cruise excursion. Before the tour started, Jeanne, our tour guide, was excellent at communicating and making sure we didn't have any dietary restrictions and giving us instructions on how to get to the meeting point. Jeanne is an amazing and patient guide! She readily answered all our questions and was so enthusiastic about everywhere we went! You can tell she really loves her city. She gave us a brief tour of the town, which happened to have Dias de los Muertos decorations up and explained the cultural significance. We were then led to a local tortilleria and learned about the tortilla-making progress and ate some freshly made tortillas, a small coffee shop to taste Mexican coffee, and then had a tour through the local fish and produce street market where we learned about all the different ingredients. Jeanne is very knowledgable! Afterwards, we had a cooking lesson at a restaurant where the head chef personally taught us how to make guacamole, enchiladas, use a tortilla press, and 2 different cocktails. We were also served some very delicious salsa. At this restaurant, we also had a delightful blind tasting test of around 14 different items that Jeanne had picked up from the market. I won't spoil what those were, it was definitely fun time guessing what some of the ingredients could be. I highly recommend Authentik Tours with Jeanne. After our tour, she gave us some recommendations on what else we could see nearby before we had to head back to our ship. We also really liked that she helped us take photos and videos and sent them to us, so we could enjoy our trip more easily. We'll definitely be looking to do other tours with Authentik Tours again in the future next time we're in the area!

Lovely guide and a fun experience

We had a lovely time with Jeanne. She is kind, knowledgeable and incredibly friendly. She took us on a tour of the market, educated us on the culture and background of the area and then we had a great lunch that we helped prepare and a fun blind tasting of different foods.

Response from the operator: Gracias Angela for your review, I am so glad you and your family enjoyed the tour! It was super nice to meet you all and share delicious mexican gastronomy and culture with you. Hope to see you again for more discovery :) Best, Jeanne

Authentic, Fun, and Delicious Experience!

Authentic, Fun, and Delicious Experience! This tour was absolutely excellent from start to finish. Our host, Aldo, was incredibly informative and made the entire experience engaging and educational. The visit to the local market was vibrant and full of color, giving us a great introduction to traditional Mexican ingredients and culture. One of the highlights was the blind tasting—it really awakened our senses! After the market, we headed to Boxabeel for the cooking portion, which was such a beautiful and welcoming space. Esmeralda and her team were fantastic—super friendly, organized, and passionate about sharing their culinary knowledge. The hands-on cooking class was both fun and interactive, and the raicilla cocktail workshop was a great way to end the day. Highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for an authentic and memorable food experience in Puerto Vallarta!

Response from the operator: Dear Elizabeth, Thank you for your review! It was a pleasure to share a bit of beautiful Mexican culture with you. We’re so happy to hear that you enjoyed the experience and that it brought you both joy and learning while supporting local businesses. We hope to welcome you again for a different—but equally wonderful—experience! Best wishes, Jeanne

Market Visit and Mexican Cooking Class: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puerto Vallarta.

How much does Market Visit and Mexican Cooking Class cost?

+

Prices start at $300 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puerto Vallarta usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Market Visit and Mexican Cooking Class take?

+

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puerto Vallarta is not rushed.

Is Market Visit and Mexican Cooking Class worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 51 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 4 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Puerto Vallarta, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Market Visit and Mexican Cooking Class?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Market Visit and Mexican Cooking Class suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Market Visit and Mexican Cooking Class?

+

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Puerto Vallarta can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Puerto Vallarta and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Market Visit and Mexican Cooking Class start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Puerto Vallarta within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Puerto Vallarta?

+

On Outty we rank every Puerto Vallarta experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Winner 2026 Downtown Vallarta Food Tour with Vallarta Food Tours, Signature Taco Tour in PV with Vallarta Eats, Food & Mixology Tour:Tequila,Tacos, Mezcal and Agave Cocktails. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Puerto Vallarta?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Puerto Vallarta?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
