Blackfin Tuna fishing for the first time
Ok, so I have nothing to compare the trip to, but captain John was brilliant and also so helpful and friendly. The whole trip was really relaxed. They even helped me celebrate when I caught my first Blackfin Tuna. he was great with the kids too, helping my 12-year-old nephew. I would highly recommend this Reef Fishing trip, and we will definitely be coming back again next time we're in Marathon. Thanks, guys.
Response from the operator: We’re glad Captain John helped make your reef fishing trip such a memorable family experience! 🎣 Celebrating your first blackfin tuna catch is a moment you won’t forget, and it’s great to hear he made everyone feel comfortable, including your 12-year-old nephew. Thanks for the recommendation, and we look forward to welcoming you back to Marathon for another adventure! 😊

Another cracking morning spent with "Captain John." A wonderful outing with the children (aged 12 and 15). Plenty of superb Mangrove Snapper caught, laughs and Marathon adventure ! Perfect family time!
Response from the operator: Thanks for another great day on the water with Captain John! 🎣 We love hearing that your family enjoyed the laughs, the Marathon adventure, and plenty of mangrove snapper action with the kids. It’s always special when a fishing trip becomes quality family time. We look forward to welcoming you back for more memories soon! 😊

A great morning...
Booked a wonderful trip for 3 adults and a 10-year-old. Michael was very friendly, and when it came to the fishing, he spent a lot of time helping our 10-year-old so we could all fish; they even had a small rod, which was ideal for him. Very family friendly and good fun for 4 hours, and we caught Yellowtail Snapper, black grouper, and Barracuda. Thank you very much, and I would recommend this experience for young people looking for their first fishing trip.
Response from the operator: Thanks for choosing us for your family’s first fishing adventure! 🎣 Captain Michael made sure everyone could enjoy the experience, especially your 10-year-old with the perfect-sized rod and extra guidance. Catching yellowtail snapper, black grouper, and barracuda made the four-hour trip even more memorable. We appreciate the recommendation and hope to welcome your family back again soon! 😊

Great day
Captain Lucas was great, we caught plenty of yellow tail snapper, started slow but he knows what he is doing and got us on the bite.
Response from the operator: It’s great to hear Captain Lucas turned a slow start into a successful day on the water! 🎣 His experience and knowledge helped get you on the bite, and we’re glad you finished the trip with plenty of yellowtail snapper. We appreciate your kind words and hope to see you back for another fishing adventure soon! 😊

Another great fishing trip
For 3 generations my family has been coming to fish with captain John. We've always been fishing, and each year it's fun. John made the trip the best ever. Entertaining us with his honesty, it's these guys who create such a great atmosphere for all ages. it's extremely good value for money. Mutton Snapper, Mangrove Snapper, black grouper, and even Barracuda. Thank you for sharing your passion and wit with us. We will see you again soon.
Response from the operator: Three generations of fishing memories is something truly special! 🎣 Captain John clearly helped make this year’s trip the best one yet with his passion, humor, and knowledge on the water. Catching mutton snapper, mangrove snapper, black grouper, and barracuda made the experience even more memorable. We appreciate your continued support and look forward to welcoming your family back again soon! 😊

Why this scores 62
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Marathon Reef Fishing Charters: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Key West.
How much does Marathon Reef Fishing Charters cost?
+
Prices start at $1100 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Key West usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Marathon Reef Fishing Charters take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Key West is not rushed.
Is Marathon Reef Fishing Charters worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 62 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 26 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Key West, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Marathon Reef Fishing Charters?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Marathon Reef Fishing Charters suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Marathon Reef Fishing Charters?
+
Around 9 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Key West can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Key West and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Marathon Reef Fishing Charters start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Key West within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Key West?
+
Key West is a boat town. The only living coral barrier reef in the continental US sits seven miles offshore, and reef trips, sunset catamarans and backcountry kayak runs are the core bookings, alongside Hemingway house and Duval history walks. Our ranking weighs boat capacity and reef site rotation, which separates the good operators from the party cruises. On Outty we rank every Key West experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Shark and Wildlife Viewing Adventure in Key West, Southernmost Food & Cultural Walking Tour by Key West Food Tours, Half-Day Trip from Key West with Kayaking, Snorkeling & Sunset. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Key West?
+
December to April, dry season and calm reef water. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Key West?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
