What you get

    About this experience

Key West is famous as mainland America's Caribbean resort town. Here, time slows down as the island vibes take over. But there is more to this island than umbrella drinks and warm breezes. Key West has an incredible history, from its origins as a maritime village that profited heavily from salvaging wrecked ships and crews along the Great Florida Reef a few miles offshore, to the creation of the micro-state known as the Conch Republic. While in Key West, you will want to visit many of the sites that make the island distinct such as the Key West Lighthouse, the Hemingway House, the Little White House, and Southernmost Point. On this tour, you will visit all of these and more, stopping for refreshments along the way at many of the island's signature restaurants and bars. You will hear stories of some of the island's more famous residents along with some lesser-known tales that have given Key West its unique place in American culture and history.

was not able to do yet is app still avalable

missed time would like to still do next two days

Response from the operator: Hi Clint - Yes. The app is still available. Sometimes, when purchased through a third-party vendor like Viator, the instructions can get confusing, as they send out their own confirmation emails with bar codes and links that are irrelevant to the download process. I have no control over that. I have been trying to pro-actively send out texts to customers with my cell number for support (this is in the email also, but I understand can be missed), but this is a manual process and I could have missed sending it to you. Please respond to my text that I sent you. I will walk you through the download process if you still have availability, or make a refund if not. For others reading, the download instructions are usually at the bottom of the email. Please make sure it is fully loaded in your email client. - Gregg

    Gotta get here soon

Full disclosure, I haven't been to Key West but it's on my list of places to see. I really enjoyed this audio tour, especially the parts about Ernest Hemingway. It was helpful and entertaining to have the history of Key West peppered into the tour and the storytelling was perfect. I felt like I was really there. Highly recommend!

    Great shore excursion

We had one day to explore Key West while on a cruise. This tour took us around to all the highlights in Old Town Key West. It’s a choose your own adventure tour, stopping in at the places that interest you the most, and passing by the places that do not. We made stops at Capt. Tony’s, Sloppy Joes (of course), Kermit’s Key Lime Pie (delicious), First Flight Brewery, San Carlos Institute (free admission), and the Hemingway House (the cats!). Unlike other audio tours, this one has stories and dialogue as you walk and doesn’t just talk about the various points of interest, so it’s interesting the whole time. I do recommend headphones, though. There’s a lot going on in the streets of Key West, and it can get a bit noisy.

How long does Maritime Village to Micro State: A Self Guided Tour of Key West take?

    +

Plan for about 1.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Key West is not rushed.

Is Maritime Village to Micro State: A Self Guided Tour of Key West suitable for kids and families?

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Key West can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Key West and add a light layer if any part of the 1.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

What are the best things to do in Key West?

    +

Key West is a boat town. The only living coral barrier reef in the continental US sits seven miles offshore, and reef trips, sunset catamarans and backcountry kayak runs are the core bookings, alongside Hemingway house and Duval history walks. Our ranking weighs boat capacity and reef site rotation, which separates the good operators from the party cruises. On Outty we rank every Key West experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Shark and Wildlife Viewing Adventure in Key West, Southernmost Food & Cultural Walking Tour by Key West Food Tours, Half-Day Trip from Key West with Kayaking, Snorkeling & Sunset. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Key West?

    +

December to April, dry season and calm reef water. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Key West?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
