What you'll see and do

  1. Maras

We will start our adventure. Our first stop after driving some minutes is The Salt mines of Maras Lookout Point, for amazing views and photos. The salt mines display a bizarre spectacle of beauty, located on a wide-open hill above the Urubamba Valley, a natural salt water stream runs underground. In pre-Incan times, they have been evaporating the salty water from this stream in order to obtain the salt that gets left behind.

  2. Maras Moray Tours

After visiting the salt mines near Maras, we continue on a short distance to the Moray ruins. The ruins are composed of three coliseums, which are thought to have been used by the Incas as a sort of open-air crop laboratory. This place was used by the Incas to study the effects of different climatic conditions on crops. The terraces are arranged in concentric circles and are reminiscent of an ancient Greek theatre.

Fantastic trip with fantastic guides!

Everything was so smooth from landing in Cusco all the way through the end of the trip. Roland was a fantastic guide...friendly, knowledgeable, timely, and prepared. Everywhere we went he had tickets ready for us, the transportation waiting outside and went above and beyond to accommodate our groups' needs. Raul, who drove us everywhere was also super friendly, outgoing and a great driver! He got us everywhere safely and took side roads when needed to cut down on drive time. I really enjoyed the hangtime with both Roland and Raul, the activities, the meals, the lodging....all of it was great! Go to Peru and hope that you get Roland and Raul to take care of you the whole trip!!

Highly Pleased

It was such an amazing trip! Our guide Roland was an amazing person with a positive upbeat attitude and so knowledgeable about everything we did. Our driver kept us safe and was always on time with a clean vehicle. This is one of the best trips of my life, and I would highly recommend it. I would give 10 stars if I could. Thank you so much. I'll definitely be back.

Peruvian Natural Salt Education

Amazing experience. I learned so much about this community and their process in salt making, which I always thought came from the oceans and seas! Alejandro was a gracious and patient host instructing us on how to shape the salt. Then offering us tastings of the different salts. I can’t wait to try the smoked one back home on everything!

Way better than going without a guide

Wow this was one of my favorite days on the trip! Small group, and our guide had so many details we wouldn’t have gotten had we just visited ourselves. Most importantly, we got to visit with one of the local families with a share in the salt mines. He and his wife showed us how to carve salt into little shapes. I never thought I’d do something so cool and hands-on. Definitely an experience I won’t forget!

Maras, Moray and Salt Mines Half-Day Tour Including Entrance Fee: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cusco.

How much does Maras, Moray and Salt Mines Half-Day Tour Including Entrance Fee cost?

+

Prices start at $89 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cusco usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Maras, Moray and Salt Mines Half-Day Tour Including Entrance Fee take?

+

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cusco is not rushed.

Is Maras, Moray and Salt Mines Half-Day Tour Including Entrance Fee worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 58 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 10 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Cusco, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Maras, Moray and Salt Mines Half-Day Tour Including Entrance Fee?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Maras, Moray and Salt Mines Half-Day Tour Including Entrance Fee suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 12. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 4-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Maras, Moray and Salt Mines Half-Day Tour Including Entrance Fee?

+

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cusco can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cusco and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Maras, Moray and Salt Mines Half-Day Tour Including Entrance Fee start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Cusco within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Cusco?

+

On Outty we rank every Cusco experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Sacred Valley Full Day Tour, Peruvian Cooking Class Cocktails and Market Tour in Cusco, Cusco: Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley Premium Day Trip with Meals. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Cusco?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Cusco?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
