What you'll see and do

  1. Maras

Maras is a town near the city of Cusco in the Sacred Valley of southeastern Peru. It's known for the Maras Salt Mines, thousands of individual salt pools on a hillside, dating back to Incan times. West of the town is Moray, an Inca archaeological site on a high plateau featuring a series of concentric terraces. Surrounding trails offer views of the snow-capped Urubamba mountain range.

  2. Maras Moray Tours

Moray is an archaeological site in Peru approximately 50 kilometres northwest of Cuzco on a high plateau at about 3,500 metres and just west of the village of Maras. The site contains unusual Inca ruins, mostly consisting of several terraced circular depressions, the largest of which is approximately 30 m deep

  3. Salinas de Maras

The stunning landscape of Salineras de Maras features salt pans that are still used exactly as they were at the time of the Incas. As you make your way through the region, you’ll see people doing the backbreaking work of harvesting salt on small family plots. The reward? The salt gathered here is some of the best in the world. Water, naturally salt-infused, flows down from the mountains and settles in the pans. As the water evaporates, salt remains, to be extracted with simple tools. Stop at a store or one of the many small-scale vendors selling the “fruit” of this labor in its pure form or mixed with herbs for use in cooking, bathing, or chocolate bars.

Excellent tour with Eirton. Would recommend it as well worth it.

This is a great trip and we got an exceptionally good guide Eirton. He was well Informed and researched and had a wealth of information. He answered our many questions about Cusco, Sacred Valery and Cusco.. He was well organised and efficient without rushing us which allowed time for some extra small stops. He was also fun and clearly enjoyed his job which always makes everyone feel welcome and valued. Great English and good communication. Definitely recommend it 100%z

Well worth the time and money.

We had a great time and our guide was amazing. She was a wealth of knowledge on everything we saw, not just the tour stops. The salt mines were otherworldly and the crop engineering of the Incan people was a marvel to see. I would highly recommend this tour.

Superb day tour!

This was a wonderful tour, Holger was extremely knowledgeable and I learned so much! He went above and beyond to make sure I was able to see everything I wanted and take plenty of stops for pictures or just to take the amazing sites in. I was able to book the the tour last minute and they were more than accommodating with my schedule, I even reached out to Holger on WhatsApp before booking to ask a million questions and he was so helpful. The transportation was clean, safe, and comfortable! I plan on coming back to Cusco and I will most certainly call Holger for every tour. I highly recommend Andina Expeditions for your tours!

Amazing first day experience

Olger and his driver were both amazing. I had more energy than I expected and booked this the afternoon of my arrival. Olger is so friendly, so knowledgeable, and a very nice photographer for solo travelers! He even went well out of his way and helped me when I started having issues with a different company for an excursion that I had the next day. I highly recommend booking with him!

Maras, Moray and Salt Mines Private Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cusco.

How much does Maras, Moray and Salt Mines Private Tour cost?

+

Prices start at $85 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cusco usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Maras, Moray and Salt Mines Private Tour take?

+

Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cusco is not rushed.

Is Maras, Moray and Salt Mines Private Tour worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 8 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Cusco, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Maras, Moray and Salt Mines Private Tour?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Maras, Moray and Salt Mines Private Tour suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 8. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 6-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Maras, Moray and Salt Mines Private Tour?

+

Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cusco can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cusco and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Maras, Moray and Salt Mines Private Tour start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Cusco within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Cusco?

+

On Outty we rank every Cusco experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Sacred Valley Full Day Tour, Peruvian Cooking Class Cocktails and Market Tour in Cusco, Cusco: Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley Premium Day Trip with Meals. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Cusco?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Cusco?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
