Great experience!!
We didn't know what to expect in this East of Madeira tour as West seems to be favoured by other online reviews. But surprisingly, we enjoyed this tour as much as the west and even a bit more. This is because this tour has the lovely vibe, we got to visit a lot of beautiful places, highlights were having a shot of spiced coffee and meeting Manuel and his mother in their original Santana cottage hut and the Rum House tour with rum and biscuit tasting. Also because of these: Tour company: very efficient. Received a confirmation e-mail soon after we booked detailing everything we need to know and replied to our queries with efficiency and prompt. Transporation we used was a small van that is fresh, comfortable and airconditioned. Driver/guide : Samuel, our driver/guide, is very knowledgeable and passionate gentleman, taking good care of all his guests especially me as I have motion sickness. He drove ever so smoothly and was checking in on me to see if I was alright. It was like touring with family, even better! Loved Samuel and this tour company, thank you! Highly recommended.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your beautiful and detailed review! We’re truly happy to hear that you enjoyed the East Side tour even more than expected and that the special moments in Santana and the Rum House made it memorable for you. Experiences like meeting local families and tasting traditional flavours are exactly what we love to share with our guests. Your kind words about our communication, the van, and especially Samuel mean a lot to us. He will be very touched to know he helped make your day comfortable and enjoyable, taking care of our guests like family is what we always aim for. Thank you again for recommending us, and we hope to welcome you back to Madeira someday for another adventure!

We had a great experience with Samuel! We booked this tour very last minute, promptly received a message from the host confirming reservation, pick up time and place. Samuel arrived on time, was very accommodating and knowledgeable. There is no hard hiking on this tour, some easy walking checking out beautiful sights. Very easy going, great experience all around!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re especially happy to hear that your tour with us was such a great experience. Samuel will be delighted to know you appreciated his punctuality, knowledge, and easygoing style. We hope to welcome you again on your next visit to Madeira!

Madeira East Island Tour with Rum Tasting: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Funchal.
How much does Madeira East Island Tour with Rum Tasting cost?
+
Prices start at $47 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Funchal usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Madeira East Island Tour with Rum Tasting take?
+
Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Funchal is not rushed.
Is Madeira East Island Tour with Rum Tasting worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Funchal, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Madeira East Island Tour with Rum Tasting?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Madeira East Island Tour with Rum Tasting suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Madeira East Island Tour with Rum Tasting?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Funchal can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Funchal and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Madeira East Island Tour with Rum Tasting start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Funchal within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Funchal?
+
On Outty we rank every Funchal experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Jeep Tour Amazing West to Natural Pools -Full-Day, Porto Moniz, Seixal, Fanal Forest, Cliff Skywalk in Open Roof 4X4, West Tour-Fanal Forest & Porto Moniz Natural Pools Small Groups. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Funchal?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Funchal?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
