Truly excellent solo street photography workshop in London
If you are in London and are looking for some excellent street photography training, this is highly recommended. I learned a lot and enjoyed it very much. Now I have a great inventory of shots to review and select from.

Recommended street photography tour in London
Had a great time with Lou on her street photography tour of Shoreditch. Picked up some great tips both for my composition but she also helped me understand some settings on my camera which I rarely use.

Only ok - felt like a group class, uncustomized and just walked down Brick Lane
I got some nice photos, but I didnt love this day out. I've done this type of thing in multiple cities, but as a private tour, it wasnt customized at all for me, which felt odd. The instructor didnt ask anything upfront about my skill-level or experience, she just kind of drove the tutorial the same way she would have for anyone, not tailoring to my level even though I was the only one on the tour. She didnt ask me any questions upfront - only if I knew it was a street photography tour. I probably could have gotten the same photos just walking on my own down Brick Lane. It was a good day out, the instructor was pleasant and knowledgeable, it just felt like she had her routine and went with it rather than trying to get to know me a little and tailor her tutorial or approach to my leveling and interests. I also was a bit disappointed how much time she spent off taking photos herself rather than watching me or talking me through shots. It was a nice day out and the instructor was lovely - I'm just not sure I got much out of it that I couldn't have done on my own, which has never happened to me before on a photography course. Every other one I've done, I've learned something. It just felt like a group class rather than a private and more expensive experience.

We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy the session as much as our previous participants, but we believe as time progresses you will see the benefits of Lou’s teaching in your work. Making change is an ongoing process which continues throughout an individual's creative journey. Sometimes we can't see change as it immediately happens...we need time to work through the process. Our evaluation of your skill level is by observing how you work, how you handle your camera and the exposures you make and by checking photos. This is what we did at varying intervals during the session. Lou certainly judged your skill level and customised the course accordingly. Our workshops aim to self empower individuals so that they can work independently utilising our advice and expertise so that they become better photographers. To set this in motion we started the workshop by looking and exploring a couple of masters of Street Photography, to think about varying ways of seeing and interpretation. You utilised some of the concepts in these images to create unique images of your own. This demonstrates your understanding of the teaching and active participation in the workshop. We were impressed by your utilisation of these points. Prior to this discussion Lou did ask what you'd like to get out of the session. You informed Lou that you like to take photos of people and wanted to get photos of people using street art backdrops. The best place for photos like this in in Brick Lane, which is bursting with colourful street art, and why we chose this route on this occasion. We explored side streets of street art as well. Customisation for you, was factored in to the structure of the session based on your interests, whilst also introducing you to different subject matters. We also explored different ways in which to site ourselves in varying locations. Always looking for the best observation point. There was ongoing review and evaluation of your work and skill level when Lou checked your photos during the session. This can only be done to that depth in a private course. During the workshop Lou took some shots to demonstrate her approach. Rather than walking off, she held back from you while you were taking photographs so that she could watch and observe how you photographed. She fed this insight back to you. This may not have been self-evident. At times in the workshop we do need space from each other as the best candid photography cannot be captured when 2 cameras together are pointing at the same person. It can be daunting to be on your own at first but if you want to do street photography it is necessary. Tuition is geared towards the student's current skill level and slightly beyond so that an individual can progress and not be stuck in the same place. This is how we approached the session with you. We do structure our courses, which we shift and change as we progress through the session. Lou never works to a repeated same in, same out routine. To work the same in each session would be detrimental to Lou’s creativity – she is responsive to the student’s workflow and suggests improvements and direction throughout the workshop. We recognise and understand that this may feel different to what you understand about street photography or did before in previous workshops. We wish you well with your continued exploration of street photography.

Relaxed and friendly tour of Shoreditch
Great (half) day. Lou is a very professional photographer with loads of experience but not at all aloof or out to impress you with her knowledge of minutia or to make you feel subordinate. In contrast, the whole time we were shooting with her she was upbeat and encouraging. What I found particularly helpful was after about 2.5 hours of walking around with on the go tuition, we stopped for tea and she gave us feedback on our shots, both those that we thought turned out well and those that we felt missed the mark; she was so patient in explaining how we could salvage shots that we thought were just about to be deleted. We really appreciated her patience. If you're looking for an enjoyable afternoon of learning at your own pace, book with her.
