    About this experience

This experience aims to provide an accessible tour through the central area of Porto, recalling impactful moments that defined LGBTQIAP+ history in the city. This queertour is goven by a gay person native to this city who has experienced these events throughout his 39 years of life. It's an intimate experience that focuses on the social evolution and awareness of the community over the years and how the city began its journey towards inclusion. We will embark together on a journey remembering facts and analyzing the paradox between two times and destinations in the history of the LGBTQIAP+ community: the 80s to the present day. We will visit different tourist spots that at first glance we would not realize their impact on the community and visit inclusive spaces. We will end with a conversation at one of the best known spots in Porto, where we can better understand the legacy and activism carried out by those who fought, so that this excursion could exist today in an openly gay way.

    A Must-Do Experience in Porto

If you ever find yourself in Porto looking for something beyond the typical tourist trail, Ricardo's tour is an absolute gem. Ricardo is a gifted storyteller who weaves together his own personal journey as a queer person with the broader, fascinating (and at times heartbreaking) history of LGBTQIA+ life in Portugal. He brings to light stories that are little known but impossible to forget, including the story of Gisberta, which left a deep impression on everyone in our group. It makes history feel alive in a way no museum exhibit ever could. The tour covers Portugal's remarkable transformation: from a country where queer people faced brutal oppression under fascism to a nation today widely considered one of the most LGBTQIA+-friendly in the world. Ricardo guides you through that arc with nuance, honesty, and a refreshing lack of sugarcoating. He is also considerate enough to provide trigger warnings where needed, which shows how much thought and care he puts into the experience. What truly sets this tour apart is Ricardo himself. Beyond being a wonderful guide, he is a committed activist who continues to fight for queer rights today. That dedication shines through in every word he speaks. He creates a welcoming atmosphere where questions are encouraged and curiosity is celebrated. You leave not just better informed, but genuinely inspired. Book it. You won't regret it.

Our dear Ricardo was an excellent tour guide! My friends and I really enjoyed this tour, which offered an alternative insight on the history of Porto. 10/10 would recommend for anyone looking for an interesting tour, different from the ‘traditional’ city tours.

    Great tour, many important stories

This was such a nice tour. Ricardo blended his own personal story with the history of Porto, with context that’s often left out. He shared key moments from recent LGBTQI+ history, which added a perspective we wouldn't have gotten on a typical walking tour. He also showed us our new fav evening hangout spot for the rest of our visit ;)

Learned a lot on this tour!

I went solo and had a great tour with Ricardo, and he is a lovely person with a lot of knowledge, whom I felt super safe around! I loved the walk around the town and learned a lot about the political history and his own experiences! It was a good length and I found it a good way to explore the city from a different perspective than the typical! I would certainly recommend it!

Is LGBTour Porto: Walk through Porto, discover the LGBTQIA+ History worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 78 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 58 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Porto, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

    +

Around 20 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Porto and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

What are the best things to do in Porto?

    +

On Outty we rank every Porto experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Unvanquished Tour in Porto City Center, Porto's #1 Walking Tour, Small Group Geres National Park Full Day with picnic from Porto. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Porto?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Porto?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
