The Knik Glacier offers one of Alaska’s most spectacular wilderness experiences. After an exciting off-road ride to the trailhead, we set out on foot across open tundra, braided riverbeds, and glacial moraine. The landscape shifts with every step—towering ice walls, deep blue crevasses, drifting icebergs, and the echoing crack of moving ice. This hike is moderately challenging but incredibly rewarding. Along the way, you’ll walk close to ancient ice that’s thousands of years old, feel the cool glacier breeze, and see colors of blue you didn’t know existed. The closer we get, the more dramatic the scenery becomes: shimmering ice fields, crystal-clear melt pools, and panoramic mountain views. It’s not just a hike—it’s an immersion into Alaska’s raw, powerful nature. Perfect for adventure seekers and anyone wanting a front-row look at one of the state’s most impressive glaciers.

Perfect Winter weather
I did this tour in March through Northbound-Adventure. I shared a jeep with the guide & one couple. It was my first time off-roading in a jeep, it was really fun, driving through the woods, across snow & ice + through water. My guide was funny & informative and stopped for all moose sightings. It’s an easy hike around the glacier, amazing views & they offer to take photos of you in front of the ice cave, etc.

Awesome Adventure
Awesome experience. You’re around so many beautiful glaciers and the off roading was an experience! Worth it!

Spectacular Views and zero crowds
Knik Glacier is simply gorgeous and the icy-blue hues are out of this world. We visited in peak winter, which means about 2 hours of off-roading to get to this beautiful, secluded, remote location. Our hosts made sure to point out wildlife like Moose, were friendly and flexible and just generally awesome! I would recommend this tour to anyone looking to have a very unique, private experience. The remoteness and ruggedness of this location means that you have the place pretty much to yourselves once you reach (no crowds at all), which was a major reason I picked the Knik over Matanuska, along with the fact that the Knik glacier has more fresh ice, and hence bluer hues and a very vast, diverse landscape. This is one of the very few tours that hit Knik Glacier in the winter (aside from few Helicopter landings), and it's definitely well worth it.

Amazing!!來Anchorage 必遊行程👍👍👍
I sincerely recommend this trip to appreciate the magic of nature!! Great experience, our tour guides are very good, and shared the local life with us along the way. The glacier hiking guides are very professional and explained a lot of knowledge to us. The trip to the glacier by off-road vehicle is rare to experience in other tour groups!

Falling in Love with Alaska on My First Visit.
This was my first time experiencing off-roading and glacier hiking, and it was truly unforgettable. The guides were professional and attentive, providing clear safety instructions and sharing helpful knowledge before the tour began. The off-road ride offered beautiful Alaskan scenery, and reaching Knik Glacier was absolutely breathtaking. The hike was well-paced, safe, and very enjoyable. I highly recommend this tour to friends and family. It’s a beautiful and worthwhile experience, and truly a must-do at least once in a lifetime.

Knik Glacier Off Roading and Hiking: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Anchorage.
How much does Knik Glacier Off Roading and Hiking cost?
+
Prices start at $399 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Anchorage usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Knik Glacier Off Roading and Hiking take?
+
Plan for about 9 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Anchorage is not rushed.
Is Knik Glacier Off Roading and Hiking worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 12 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Anchorage, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Knik Glacier Off Roading and Hiking?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Knik Glacier Off Roading and Hiking suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 9-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Knik Glacier Off Roading and Hiking?
+
Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Anchorage can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Anchorage and add a light layer if any part of the 9-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Knik Glacier Off Roading and Hiking start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Anchorage within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Anchorage?
+
Anchorage is the staging point for glacier cruises out of Whittier and Seward, Denali flightseeing, wildlife conservation centre visits, dog sledding and northern lights chases in winter. Long transfer times make itinerary honesty essential. On Outty we rank every Anchorage experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include PRISTINE - Wilderness, Wildlife, Glacier Experience in Anchorage, Anchorage Trolley's Deluxe City Tour, Anchorage Trolley's 1-Hour City Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Anchorage?
+
June to August for glaciers, September to March for aurora. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Anchorage?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
What is included in Knik Glacier Off Roading and Hiking?
+
Included: Hiking Cleats. Always check the voucher for the final list before you travel.
Does Knik Glacier Off Roading and Hiking include hotel pickup?
+
Yes, pickup is offered for every traveler from 4 listed pickup locations in and around Anchorage. Be ready about 10 minutes before the start time. You can also enter a custom pickup address when booking.
What languages is Knik Glacier Off Roading and Hiking offered in?
+
It runs in English. Pick your language when choosing a date and time, as not every departure runs in every language.
Will I get instant confirmation and a mobile ticket for Knik Glacier Off Roading and Hiking?
+
Confirmation is sent by the operator after booking, usually within 48 hours; if it is not confirmed you are not charged. Mobile tickets are accepted, so you can show the voucher on your phone.
Is Knik Glacier Off Roading and Hiking wheelchair or stroller accessible?
+
The operator notes: Not recommended for pregnant travelers. If accessibility is critical, contact the operator after booking to confirm arrangements for your date.
What happens to Knik Glacier Off Roading and Hiking if the weather is bad?
+
This experience depends on good weather. If it is canceled because of poor weather, you are offered a different date or a full refund.
What do travelers say about Knik Glacier Off Roading and Hiking?
+
Across 12 reviews averaging 5.0 out of 5, recurring themes include the guide, photo opportunities, knowledge and storytelling. Travelers single out the guide as the reason the experience works. One thing to know: Expect real walking or climbing: reviewers mention the effort involved.
