    Great time.

This was a great experience. The group was small and the guide was well informed. I found other tours did not encourage solo travelers but I had no problem here.

    Amazing tour

Amazing trip. Rina was professional and informative. Everything went smooth, from the pick up, glacier hike, lunch and return. Nic at the glacier was an excellent guide and showed us all the special spots

Recommend driving to Matanuska Glacier on your own and booking the glacier tour directly instead

The Matanuska Glacier tour guide and the bus driver were different people, and I would honestly give the Matanuska Glacier guide 100 out of 100. The guide was excellent—so good that I actually wished he had been our guide for the entire trip. He spent more time with us than scheduled, gave very detailed explanations, and shared lots of interesting and entertaining stories. Unfortunately, the bus driver was the complete opposite and was the worst part of the experience. First, although we were picked up as promised, we were not dropped off at our hotel afterward, so we had to pay for an Uber back to the hotel ourselves. This was different from what was advertised, and no explanation was provided. The tour description also said that we would be able to have lunch at a scenic location. I’m not sure whether it was because the Matanuska Glacier tour ran late, but instead, we ended up having to eat our lunch on the bus. The driver also did not come across as a professional tour guide, and the snacks provided were simply store-bought donuts and fruit. Considering the price of the tour, I found it difficult to say that it was good value for money. I would personally recommend driving to Matanuska Glacier on your own and booking the glacier tour directly instead. The glacier tour itself was fantastic, but the transportation portion of this package was very disappointing.

    Amazing tour at the glaciers!!

We had a wonderful time on this tour. The glacier scenery was gorgeous, but what truly made the trip exceptional was our guide, Lori. She was attentive, helpful, and ensured everything ran smoothly. We would definitely book again!

    Fantastic Tour

We really enjoyed this tour. Lori picked us up at our hotel on time, the van was clean, and she had all the mom things ready (water, snacks, tissues). She told us a bit about the area and the surrounding landscape. She was super friendly. We had 10 in our group, which is a good number. The tour on the glacier was lead by Lana. She did a fantastic job of explaining the area and history of the glacier. She made sure to warn us about potential dangers and worked to keep us safe. The glacier itself is incredible. We didn’t realize it was so big! She led us all around so we could see it from all angles and get some great photos. We would definitely recommend this tour!

Matanuska Glacier Hike Day Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Anchorage.

How much does Matanuska Glacier Hike Day Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $329 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Anchorage usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Matanuska Glacier Hike Day Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 10 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Anchorage is not rushed.

Is Matanuska Glacier Hike Day Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 83 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 451 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Anchorage, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Matanuska Glacier Hike Day Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Matanuska Glacier Hike Day Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 10-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Matanuska Glacier Hike Day Tour?

    +

Around 158 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Anchorage can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Anchorage and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Matanuska Glacier Hike Day Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Anchorage within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Anchorage?

    +

Anchorage is the staging point for glacier cruises out of Whittier and Seward, Denali flightseeing, wildlife conservation centre visits, dog sledding and northern lights chases in winter. Long transfer times make itinerary honesty essential. On Outty we rank every Anchorage experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include PRISTINE - Wilderness, Wildlife, Glacier Experience in Anchorage, Anchorage Trolley's Deluxe City Tour, Anchorage Trolley's 1-Hour City Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Anchorage?

    +

June to August for glaciers, September to March for aurora. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Anchorage?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
