Sad

Our guide never showed. When we finally reached him, he was unapologetic. It was a private , day long tour. We had been really looking forward to it. Viator tried to help but, no show. We WILL BE reimbursed for an expensive tour.

10/10 Experience with Cengiz! ✨️🙌🏽🔥

Our tour of Sultanahmet with Cengiz was nothing short of spectacular! From the moment we met him, it felt less like a guided tour and more like exploring Istanbul with a lifelong friend. Cengiz is exceptionally knowledgeable, warm, and engaging, bringing the history and culture of the city to life with fascinating details and personal stories that made every stop unforgettable. One of the most magical moments of our trip was when he brought us to meet Hikmat, a masterful rug dealer in the Grand Bazaar. Sitting on a stack of stunning Turkish kilims, sipping Turkish tea with my husband, and listening to Hikmat share his passion for his craft was an experience I will treasure forever. This tour is truly fantastic and for true adventurers who are deeply curious and passionate about learning because Cengiz has a wealth of knowledge & is a fantastic storyteller! If you genuinely want to understand the history of Istanbul and soak in the stories behind its monuments, markets, and hidden corners, you will get the most out of this experience. Cengiz’s expertise, storytelling, and personal touches make it an absolute must for anyone ready to explore Istanbul beyond the surface. I can’t wait to return to Istanbul and share a cup with Cengiz—whether it’s Turkish tea or coffee, because it genuinely feels like I’ve made a new friend! ☺️🙌🏽🪷 Thank you Cengiz!

Cengiz is the best

This was one of the very best tours I’ve ever been on, in any city. Cengiz’s knowledge of the history and culture of Istanbul is exceptional. He is also a very lovely and considerate host, who takes close care of all of his clients. We even had a lovely rooftop wine after the tour finished with Cengiz and his partner with many great additional insights into life in this diverse city. 11/10 experience.

The Highlight of Our Trip – Exploring with a Friend, Not Just a Guide

Our original Airbnb tour canceled on us last minute, but that turned out to be a blessing. We found Cengiz instead, and he completely transformed our experience of Istanbul. The difference was night and day—professional, organized, communicative, and truly invested in giving us the best possible day. As a licensed guide, he not only brought deep knowledge and storytelling, but also helped us skip the long lines at major sites like Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, and the Basilica Cistern. From the moment we met, it felt personal. He took us to a peaceful courtyard for tea and cookies, walked us through centuries of history with passion, and always found the perfect photo spot. At lunch, he introduced us to a cozy homestyle restaurant where we tried dishes we never would have found on our own. Don’t miss the vişneli kadayıf—a cherry-soaked pastry with clotted cream that was absolutely divine. The Grand Bazaar can be daunting, but with Cengiz it became an adventure. He guided us to authentic artisans and favorite hidden shops, turning what might have been overwhelming into one of the highlights of the day. He even helped adjust another Airbnb tour we had booked so we could slow down, take in Istanbul properly, and not feel rushed. What impressed us most was how far he went beyond what we expected. Our tour was supposed to end at 2:30, but he stayed with us until 5, personally dropping us at our hammam and making sure everything was perfect. Even after the tour, he continued sending restaurant tips and recommendations. As LGBT travelers, we also felt instantly comfortable. Cengiz is part of the community himself and was open, kind, and genuine in sharing his perspective. By the end of the day, Istanbul no longer felt chaotic and foreign—it felt like a city we could actually imagine living in. More than just a tour guide, we left with a new friend. Thank you, Cengiz!

Istanbul Essential Highlights: Hagia Sophia and Cistern and more: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Istanbul.

How much does Istanbul Essential Highlights: Hagia Sophia and Cistern and more cost?

+

Prices start at $75 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Istanbul usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Istanbul Essential Highlights: Hagia Sophia and Cistern and more take?

+

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Istanbul is not rushed.

Is Istanbul Essential Highlights: Hagia Sophia and Cistern and more worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 64 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 14 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Istanbul, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Istanbul Essential Highlights: Hagia Sophia and Cistern and more?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Istanbul Essential Highlights: Hagia Sophia and Cistern and more suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Istanbul Essential Highlights: Hagia Sophia and Cistern and more?

+

Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Istanbul can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Istanbul and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Istanbul Essential Highlights: Hagia Sophia and Cistern and more start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Istanbul within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Istanbul?

+

On Outty we rank every Istanbul experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Best of Istanbul 1, 2 or 3-Day Private Guided Istanbul Tour, Istanbul Luxury Bosphorus Yacht Cruise with Asian Side Stop, ISTANBUL BEST: Iconic Landmarks Full Day PRIVATE Guided City Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Istanbul?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Istanbul?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
