Slow Horses, but fast knowledge of London's evolution

While i am a Slow Horses fan, this tour is as much about central London as a central player in the drama. I learnt so much about history and architecture. Susannah is a wonderful guide. Incredibly knowledgeable and I think even a 'casual' fan of the shabby crew from Slow Horses would get so much from this tour. Thank you Susannah.

Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. It was a pleasure to introduce you to the Slough House neighbourhood and I'm so glad you enjoyed the history and architecture too!

    Great tour!

I've learnt a lot as a Londoner! I always associated the City as a place to work and never paid much attention to its secret gardens and squares, let alone its history. It's a great tour if you wan to learn more about London as a visitor or a local!

Response from the operator: Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a review. It was a pleasure to share the City's gardens and squares with you!

Where Roman and Saxon ruins meet secret gardens and dragons

I can fully recommend this guided tour booked through Kodama Travel, which gives you a great insight into the square mile which is now the financial headquarters of London. It is full of surprises, starts off with Roman and Saxon remains, then takes you down streets where old architecture mixes with new, and suddenly you are in the grounds of a beautiful garden, which is in fact a ruined church, hidden from the view of the street - it certainly has this secret feel about it. Along the tour, which lasts 1.5 hours, you are taken through an urban experience with reference to both history, architecture, authors like Dickens and places featured in films like the 1001 Dalmatians and Harry Potter. One of my favourite bits was when our guide Suzanne showed us the Leadenhall Market, previously a poultry market right back from the 14th century, now a beautiful, covered Victorian looking arcade. Apart from the history and funny stories surrounding it, its other attraction was a beautiful lit up Christmas Tree in the middle surrounded by pillars with dragons on the top - there was a good handful of dragons, radiating strength and magnificence. A powerful image of London which also happens to have dragons on its coat of arms. It made my day, and Suzanne was a brilliant tour guide making sure the tour was fun, informative and interesting at the same time. All in all the full experience was a treat, the booking via Kodama Travel was easy and I would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to know a little bit more about London and likes to be surprised too. Tips - if you go in the winter months, wrap up warmly and bring hat, scarf and gloves just in case.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review, and for booking through Kodama Travel. It was a pleasure to introduce you to the City. I'm glad you loved Leadenhall Market – it's one of my favourite spots too!

Highlights of Old London Town: Walking Tour of the Square Mile: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for London.

How much does Highlights of Old London Town: Walking Tour of the Square Mile cost?

    +

Prices start at $28 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in London usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Highlights of Old London Town: Walking Tour of the Square Mile take?

    +

Plan for about 1.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in London is not rushed.

Is Highlights of Old London Town: Walking Tour of the Square Mile worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 64 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 7 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in London, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Highlights of Old London Town: Walking Tour of the Square Mile?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Highlights of Old London Town: Walking Tour of the Square Mile suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Highlights of Old London Town: Walking Tour of the Square Mile?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in London can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in London and add a light layer if any part of the 1.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Highlights of Old London Town: Walking Tour of the Square Mile start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central London within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in London?

    +

London's best attractions split cleanly: the museums are free and need no booking, so the paid market is about views, theatre and getting out of the city for a day. That makes value scoring unusually important here, and the Outty Ranking penalises anything charging premium prices for access you could get for nothing. On Outty we rank every London experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Soho Music & Historic Pubs Tour, London Small Group Tour of Historical Pubs, The Great British Rock and Roll Walking Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit London?

    +

May to September for long evenings, December for the Christmas markets. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in London?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
