Great experience!
My wife and I went on this whale watching tour, and we have to say John (one of the crew members) is probably the most friendly guy we’ve met in Maui. Super outgoing and super friendly. He explained everything very well answered all of our questions about whales and Hawaii and offered to take photos for us. We got to see several whales and their calves but it was probably too late in the season for us to see them jumping. We really enjoyed the boat ride and getting to see the islands from a different perspective. Would highly recommend and felt the price was very reasonable compared to other companies we researched.
Response from the operator: Wow, wow, wow! Thank you for sharing this adorable story of your toddler snorkeling for the first time. What a beautiful memory :) Our crew loves helping guests (of all ages!) get a close look at Maui's beautiful underwater world. Thank you for giving us a glimpse into your fun day aboard Malolo for the Molokini snorkel tour. Mahalo and join us again soon!

Best trip ever!
We had the very best whale watching trip we've ever been on! We saw a bunch of whales. There was tail slapping, breeching, songs we could hear from umderwater. The entire party agreed, this was the best!
Response from the operator: Wow! This sounds like an incredible day aboard Malolo for the Molokini snorkel tour. We love hearing that our guests consider this tour to be the best part of their Maui vacation! We'd love to welcome you back the next time you visit. Aloha!

Booked 1 tour, was placed on another. Several whales in sight!
Although the tour ended up being great, we did not get the tour we booked and paid for. We ended up being on another boat and it was not a catamaran and it was not a sunset tour. Someone messed up some where. We went out at 3:30 and back at 5:30 which is not sunset time here in Hawaii any time of the year. So, I would love an explanation for this, please.
Response from the operator: Aloha, Thank you for taking the time to send in your feedback about your cruise. Providing fun, safe boating adventures is our highest priority, and we are very sorry to hear that your experience was anything less than wonderful. We are looking into every aspect of your trip to find where we fell short so that we can address those issues immediately. We strive to provide stellar customer service to all our passengers and guests. While over 90% of our reviewers rate us as excellent or very good, we appreciate and value all feedback our customers choose to provide. We love taking guests out to experience Maui’s amazing ocean environment and are very sorry that we did not meet and exceed your expectations. Please give us a call or visit us again on your next visit to Maui. We’d love to get a chance to win you over.

Whales are AMAZING
Amazing experience. The boat Captain made sure everyone on the vessel was able to see these whales in their habitat. Would turn and stop the boat to get the best views possible. Jeff, a Navy Veteran who was a crewman on the ship pointed out many opportunities as well as made my wife and I feel like we were the only people on the boat. A once in a lifetime experience that would not have been as memorable if it weren’t for Jeff! We were surrounded by a lot of whales and as well as Jill putting a microphone into the water to allow us to hear the whales communicate was AMAZING! This was by far the best excursion on our trip. As we headed back into the marina, we were blessed with a full rainbow which provided a beautiful picture as our journey ended! If in Maui, you need to take this tour. You won’t regret it. But again, Jeff was what made this trip memorable for my wife and I! Thank you Jeff! You are a hero and a gentleman! May you always live in sunshine and happiness! Life changing experience!!!
I watched a whale breach and splash down in the water. Let me repeat that…I watched a whale jump out of the water and splash down into the ocean!!!! We saw the whales slapping their fins on the water, saw a few whale calfs, saw them flap their tails around….truly a life changing experience. My kids had a great time. My son really had a great time. He’s 9 and just went from one end of the boat to the other on the lookout. My 11 and 13 yo daughters had a great time as well. The free sodas on board were cool too. I highly recommend.
Response from the operator: Amazing! The Molokini snorkel tour aboard Malolo is the best Maui vacation activity for people of all ages. We are happy to hear you enjoyed your afternoon with our stellar crew. Mahalo!

Why this scores 60
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
From Ma'alaea Harbor: Sunset Whale Watch Tour Aboard the Malolo: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Maui.
How much does From Ma'alaea Harbor: Sunset Whale Watch Tour Aboard the Malolo cost?
+
Prices start at $50 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Maui usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does From Ma'alaea Harbor: Sunset Whale Watch Tour Aboard the Malolo take?
+
Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Maui is not rushed.
Is From Ma'alaea Harbor: Sunset Whale Watch Tour Aboard the Malolo worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 60 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.1/5 across 71 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Maui, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule From Ma'alaea Harbor: Sunset Whale Watch Tour Aboard the Malolo?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is From Ma'alaea Harbor: Sunset Whale Watch Tour Aboard the Malolo suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book From Ma'alaea Harbor: Sunset Whale Watch Tour Aboard the Malolo?
+
Around 25 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Maui can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Maui and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does From Ma'alaea Harbor: Sunset Whale Watch Tour Aboard the Malolo start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Maui within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Maui?
+
Maui's three signature days are the Hana road, the Haleakala summit sunrise and the Molokini snorkel sail, and all three are logistics problems as much as experiences. Sunrise summit entry is permit-controlled, Hana is a ten-hour driving day, and Molokini boats vary wildly in size. Our ranking rewards operators who handle permits and keep boat capacity low. On Outty we rank every Maui experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Molokini Crater + South Maui Coast Adventure from Kihei, Maui, Maui: VIP Private Road to Hana Tour with Pick Up, Road to Hana Adventure Maui Tour with Lunch. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Maui?
+
April to May and September to October. Whale season runs December to April. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Maui?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
