would not recommend this Outlander Tour Company

Viator chose Private Tours Edinburgh for our Outlander Tour. Our driver was David. We expected our guide to be very knowledgeable about Outlander and also about Scotland in general as we would be in the car for a lot of the day but unfortunately this did not happen. Most Scots are very talkative but not David. If my husband did not ask any questions I honestly don't think he would have talked much at all. He texted me an email late the night before knowing we were at a hotel and said we would need to pack a lunch because we wouldn't have time to stop. We were meeting the next morning at 9am so how would we do that?? A whole day tour and we can't stop to pick up food? He did have to stop of course. We paid extra for this private tour and this did not fit the bill. If you are a real Outlander lover you would not want to use this person, I am sorry to say. The next day we had a tour with Ecosse Executive of Edinburgh and when we told him our situation from the day before he couldn't believe it and immediately called his partner (who was off the next day) to take us out the following day to some more of the Outlander stops and he said yes and was WONDERFUL!! I would highly recommend Ecosse Executive and Paul for the Outlander Tour. We had Alan for Edinburgh tour and he was fantastic! They both cared that we had a great experience and we did with them.

Response from the operator: The tour was carried out in a professional way and I gave you a lot of information about the Outlander locations we visited . We received positive feedback during the tour. Thanks for bringing a packed lunch as requested. I am sorry if you were disappointed with your experience .

    Highly Recommend!!!

David was an excellent driver and guide who cheerfully offered tidbits of accurate historical background, as well as filmmaking trivia related to Outlander, Game of Thrones, James Bond, Monty Python, Downton Abbey and other movies and television series that were filmed in areas of Scotland. Even though this was technically an "Outlander" tour, he was well versed in everything else you could think of, including one of my favorites: Doctor Who! He answered all my random questions about sites we passed and offered stories about others that I didn't even know existed. He told me about natural geological features of the land and even explained some of the cultural differences between Highland and Lowland Scots. David knows the best routes to get to each location, where the entrances are, and where the ticket offices are located (if they're separate from the entrances). He makes sure you see him when you come out, so you don't need to worry about wandering around looking for him when you've finished looking at a site. I highly recommend this private tour service! It's so much more personalized and efficient than group tours and coaches!

Response from the operator: Thanks for your kind comments . I think I forgot to mention that if you make a direct booking for another tour with us you can get a 10% discount .

    +

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Edinburgh can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Edinburgh and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

What are the best things to do in Edinburgh?

    +

The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Edinburgh?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Edinburgh?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
