    About this experience

Want to know where to turn off? What's at each stop? The history of the Natives? The story of the animals? Why are there so many Pithons here and where did they come from? This drive goes down the main rd of the park. Along the way, look for elevated observation towers, hidden boardwalk trails, and tranquil ponds, and listen for stories of the Seminole, the runways, and Miccosukee peoples who called this land Pa-Hai-Okee, early plume hunters and the game warden who gave his life to stop them, and the legends tied to Guy Bradley and the birth of wildlife conservation in America. Learn about the sites. Know what is at each turn off. And discover the story of the Everglades. This is a location aware smartphone guided driving tour on our app WalknTours. It plays as you drive sharing the history. This does not include the park ticket fee. It's only the audio guide for the drive.

      45 minutes here

    2. Mahogany Hammock Trail, takes you into one of the park's most impressive hardwood forests. A raised boardwalk winds through ancient mahogany trees, some of the largest in the United States. It's a half-mile loop, shaded and peaceful, where you might spot barred owls or the rare white-crowned pigeon. Hopefully, no pythons or alligators. There are no restrooms here, and it takes twenty to thirty minutes. The boardwalk is wheelchair accessible and easy for all ages.

    4. This is the starting point for the short, paved Pinelands Trail. This easy, point 4 mile loop immerses visitors in one of Florida’s rarest habitats: the pine rocklands, featuring slash pines, palmetto bushes, and small tropical hardwood patches. The trail is wheelchair accessible and shaded.

      Pass by without stopping

    5. The Pa-Hay-Okee Observation Tower ahead on the right was built so visitors could see what those Seminole scouts saw. It features a short boardwalk leading to a raised platform with sweeping panoramic views. Wildlife is limited, but a worthwhile stop. And of note, Pa-Hay-Okee means "Grassy Waters" in the Seminole language.

      Pass by without stopping

    6. Our next site, the Nine Mile Pond, gets its name from being roughly nine miles from Flamingo. The canoe trail is a five-point-two-mile loop winding through narrow channels, sawgrass prairies, and mangrove tunnels. It's one of the park's most popular paddling routes because it offers something you can't get from the road.

      Pass by without stopping

    7. The tour ends at Guy Bradley Visitor Center where you can explore the history an learn more about the park.
