A night of wonder under the Milky Way

Padnam and Nabu’s safari was the highlight of our trip to India. If you want a non tourist experience and to feel connected to nature this is for one for you.

    Totally amazing authentic experience

Having visited Jaisalmer as one of its early tourists 30 years ago, and taking a desert safari then, I was excited to take my family (not around then!) to experience the beauty of the desert themselves. It was important to me that we could get out into nature and away from tourists and we were recommended Padam at Wanderlust. He did not let us down. The four of us went by jeep with Nabu to find our camels, well away from the large tourist tent set ups that now make up the bulk of the desert tours. Hakam and ‘Video’ were our desert hosts and we enjoyed an incredibly peaceful camel ride as the sun dropped in the sky. The only other person we saw was a shepherd who wanted to bum a smoke. We arrived at some beautiful, empty dunes that were to be our camp and the three men quickly got a fire going to produce some pakora as our kids rolled in the dunes as the sun set. We gathered around the camp fire in the evening and enjoyed an excellent meal while learning about village life from our three hosts (all desert village natives). We slept in comfy, clean beds under the full moon and massive blankets and were not cold at all, despite it being January. The next morning we were woken at sunrise with freshly made chai and then enjoyed a breakfast cooked on the open fire. We chose to rode the camels back to towards the village before heading back to town in the jeep. We left having experienced something truly magical and, for our 13 year old particularly, a profound insight into the lives of others. Simply wondeful.

Book this for a peaceful trip

We booked the sunset desert safari through the hotel (where we were also staying) which was one of the highlights of our trip. A half day/evening of driving into the desert, riding a camel and eating under the stars. There was one other lovely couple plus our family of four on the trip. Sadly we couldn’t sleep in the desert as we had a flight the next day but that would have been lovely. I’ve read some of the other safaris are noisy and in rubbish strewn areas, but this was the complete opposite of that.

    Beyond expectation

My oh my. After such a long hiatus from penning down my nary worth of thoughts on TripAdvisor, back to this site I am. This time, it is for the sole purpose of vouching the awesomeness of my 2d1n desert tour with Wanderlust Camel Safari. The owner was super responsive when contacted, offered pickups/dropoffs when needed, and even provided useful information about the town (traffic, bus terminals, etc). Anyway, it is worth repeating that the trip was awesome and had a lasting impact to my travel experience. I feel like I don’t need to repeat what others had already written here but all I can say is that the tour is legit and professionally run by the owner and his staff. A special mention to Nabbu the driver, whom I’ve become a good friend with. In short, do not hesitate to go with Wanderlust C. S. and save yourselves from the proverbial tourist trap of Sam Sand Dunes. Trust me.

Dinner on the Dunes & Camel Safari: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Jaisalmer.

How much does Dinner on the Dunes & Camel Safari cost?

    +

Prices start at $25 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Jaisalmer usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Dinner on the Dunes & Camel Safari take?

    +

Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Jaisalmer is not rushed.

Is Dinner on the Dunes & Camel Safari worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 81 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 47 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Jaisalmer, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Dinner on the Dunes & Camel Safari?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Dinner on the Dunes & Camel Safari suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Dinner on the Dunes & Camel Safari?

    +

Around 16 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Jaisalmer can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Jaisalmer and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Dinner on the Dunes & Camel Safari start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Jaisalmer within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Jaisalmer?

    +

On Outty we rank every Jaisalmer experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Overnight Camel Safari - Sleeping under the Stars, Adventure non touristic camel safari, Overnight Desert Safari Tour Package. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Jaisalmer?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Jaisalmer?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
