    Fantastic Sunset with the Surprise

Prior to arriving in Maine, I had booked a sailing journey with every stop on my Maine trip except Camden. I am really glad that I decided to make sure I added this on at the last minute as this was an excellent sail. The Surprise is a smaller sailboat with one captain and one deckhand. I do prefer a smaller sail as I think it provides for a more intimate experience, so this was what I was looking for. The harbor in Camden is truly beautiful - there are rolling hills that lead into the water and of course islands and lighthouses that you pass once you are out on the water. Because of the environment alone, you must do a sail in Camden!

    Wonderful trip, great crew

Captain, crew and entertainer were amazing. We were in Camden for over a week and watched the various boats and crews before deciding to book this one. Great experience!

A beautiful experience, but not as exciting as we expected

Being on a two-masted schooner is, of course, an unusual experience for almost everyone. We enjoyed it, including watching as the sails went up and came down. At the same time, the cruise is essentially a nice two-hour calm cruise on the water. Well worth doing ,but once you are underway under sail, the experience is somewhat similar to being in a non-sailing ship. So if you want to get out on the water while you are in Maine--and we did--then this is a great way to do it. The crew was excellent.

    The definition of tranquility

The wind didn't participate as much as we liked but we still had a great time. We liked that the boat wasn't super large so it was a smaller group of people and we were able to engage with each other and the crew. Funny that the captain was from a high school and college in our area (we're from Ohio). Both him and the "mate" were great to talk too. We got to see a seal and other wildlife, and sailing the water was so peaceful and relaxing

How long does Day Sails and Sunset tours on Schooner Surprise in Camden Maine take?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 81 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 133 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Camden, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Day Sails and Sunset tours on Schooner Surprise in Camden Maine?

Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Camden and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Outty ranks every bookable tour and activity in Camden by rating quality, review depth, booking demand and value, so you can see the standouts before you book. On Outty we rank every Camden experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Windjammer Classic Sunset Sail from Camden, Maine, Windjammer Classic Day Sail from Camden, Maine, Maine Iconic Foods Tasting And Class in Wiscasset. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Camden?

    +

Spring and fall bring the best weather and lighter crowds in Camden, while summer has the widest choice of tours and evening activities. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Camden?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
