    1. Bampton

A scenic, 40-minute drive from Oxford city centre brings us to the edge of the Cotswolds and the pretty village of Bampton – though fans of a certain TV show may know it better as ‘Downton’! There are cafés and shops here to stock up on snacks and a small Downton Abbey exhibition for the superfans!

      45 minutes here

    2. After a 15-minute drive from Bampton, we'll arrive in the lovely village of Shilton - a hidden gem here in the Cotswolds! This charming village is off the tourist trail, quiet and peaceful, with a very picturesque ford (river crossing the street). It’s a beautiful place to stop and get snap-happy with your camera!

      Pass by without stopping

    3. Bibury

Leaving Shilton, we'll take the scenic back roads (30 mins), via the pretty villages of Eastleach and Coln St Aldwyn's, to arrive at your next stop - the popular village of Bibury. Home to the famous Arlington Row of cottages, Bibury is often described as "the prettiest village in England". See for yourself!

      30 minutes here

    4. Bourton-on-the-Water

16-seater minibuses can travel on roads unsuitable for larger coaches - and the 40-minute scenic route from Bibury to Bourton-on-the-Water is a perfect example of this! Winding our way through the gorgeous Coln Valley, we'll arrive in the must-see village of Bourton-on-the-Water (a village where larger coaches cannot park). You'll have approximately 1 hour 15 minutes of free time here to explore this pretty riverside village. Perhaps have some lunch in one of the many charming tea-rooms or cafés, stroll along the river Windrush, shop for gifts or visit a local museum.

      75 minutes here

    5. Burford

Leaving Bourton-on-the-Water, a 25-minute drive - passing through the lovely villages of Great Barrington and Taynton - brings us to your final stop in the historic Cotswold market town of Burford. Hike up ‘The Hill’ for gorgeous cottages and far-reaching views, shop for gifts and antiques, or have a cream tea in one of the local tea-rooms. Don’t miss the impressive ‘wool church’ of St. John The Baptist with its surprising history!

Colin was an excellent guide very knowledgeable of the area gave us interesting pertinent information and allow us to do many things on our own at our own pace in each stop. He also showed us many off-road areas. We probably would have never seen highly recommend this tour.

GO GO GO Book This Tour !!!!!

I was actually slated to stay in Morten-In-Marsh, but that tour was sold out so I extended my time in Oxford so I could take this trip - what a GREAT decision. The pickup location was so easy. The tour group is small which is what I loved most - the vehicle let's you transit places the big buses simply can't. Our guide was Elaine - I hope all of you are fortunate with to get paired with her - she's brilliant - so well spoken and so full of knowledge. She's an excellent driver and was so friendly and fun. The Cotswolds are exquisite to see - I highly recommend you do it with Go Cotswolds !!!!!!!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your fantastic review! We’re absolutely delighted to hear that you had such a wonderful day exploring the Cotswolds with us. It sounds like extending your stay in Oxford turned out to be a very good decision! We’re especially pleased that you enjoyed the small-group experience. Our smaller minibuses allow us to get into some of the beautiful Cotswolds villages that larger coaches simply can’t reach, while keeping the tour feeling relaxed and personal. And what a lovely compliment for Elaine! We’ll certainly pass on your kind words — we know she’ll be thrilled to hear that you found her so knowledgeable, friendly and fun. “Brilliant” and “excellent driver” are exactly the sort of things we love hearing about our guides! Thank you also for recommending Go Cotswolds so enthusiastically. If you’re ever back in the area, we’d love to have you join us again.

    Cotswolds with GoCotswolds and Steve!

This was the most pleasant and informative tour my wife and I have been on. The Cotswolds exceeded our expectations and Steve the driver and guide was funny informative and genuine. My wife called him a “National Treasure.!” If we take another tour through Viator we’d try to find one Steve was guiding for GoCotswolds.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for such a wonderful review! We’re delighted to hear that you and your wife had such a memorable time exploring the Cotswolds with Steve. We absolutely love hearing that Steve was funny, informative and genuine — and please tell your wife that calling him a “National Treasure” has definitely made his day! We’ll be sure to pass your lovely comments on to him. It’s fantastic to hear that the Cotswolds exceeded your expectations and that you enjoyed the tour so much. Steve is a real asset to the Go Cotswolds team, and we’re very lucky to have him sharing his knowledge and stories with our guests. We’d love to welcome you back again in the future. If you do return, you can always book directly with Go Cotswolds next time — it’s the best way to see all our available tours and dates. We’ll do our very best to make sure you get Steve again!

    Glad I sign up

Very nice day - good introduction to the Cotswold area. Dave our driver was great and kept us on a good time schedule. I would leave off Bilbury - it was so crowded there was absolutely no charm factor. Use that opportunity to have a longer stay at another place like like Burford

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review! We’re delighted to hear you had a lovely day exploring the Cotswolds and that Dave helped make the experience such a positive one. We’ll be sure to pass on your kind words — keeping everyone on schedule while still giving you time to enjoy each stop is no easy feat! We also really appreciate your honest feedback about Bibury. It’s certainly one of the most famous Cotswold villages, but its popularity can mean it gets very busy, particularly at peak times. And we completely understand that when you’re looking for that quintessential Cotswolds charm, crowds can sometimes get in the way! That's why we started our Secret Cotswolds tour! You should take a look. Thank you again for choosing Go Cotswolds and for sharing your thoughts. We hope we’ll have the pleasure of showing you even more of the Cotswolds on a future visit!

Cotswolds Day Tour from Oxford - Explore Downton and Beyond: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Oxford.

How much does Cotswolds Day Tour from Oxford - Explore Downton and Beyond cost?

    +

Prices start at $117 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Oxford usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Cotswolds Day Tour from Oxford - Explore Downton and Beyond take?

    +

Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Oxford is not rushed.

Is Cotswolds Day Tour from Oxford - Explore Downton and Beyond worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 64 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 13 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Oxford, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Cotswolds Day Tour from Oxford - Explore Downton and Beyond?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Cotswolds Day Tour from Oxford - Explore Downton and Beyond suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 7-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Cotswolds Day Tour from Oxford - Explore Downton and Beyond?

    +

Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Oxford can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Oxford and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Cotswolds Day Tour from Oxford - Explore Downton and Beyond start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Oxford within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Oxford?

    +

On Outty we rank every Oxford experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Cotswolds in a Day Tour from Moreton-in-Marsh / Stratford-on-Avon, Oxford University Walking Tour With University Alumni Guide, Oxford Official University & City Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Oxford?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Oxford?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
