Great day on the water and land

We had a wonderful day with Ryan as our guide! You can tell he really loves his job. He asked upfront what we hoped to see, etc. and was always making sure we were enjoying the day. The boat ride to Corcovado was over an hour and it is a bumpy ride, but enjoyable, We got a very special treat seeing humpback whales. Be prepared to enter the water to get into the boat. Ryan was able to spot a lot of wildlife for us, including beautiful macaws, other birds and an anteater. Lunch was really good on a nice beach. We got a whats app message the evening before giving us a great list of what to expect and what to bring. They included wear long sleeves, pants, hiking shoes, etc. and made a mention of the boat transfer. Had we not hiked out on the Whales Tail the morning before, we would not have realized that you get in the water and walk out to the boat. So then you have to think about getting in the water and not getting the pants wet for the boat transfer. We wore water socks and shorts for that part then changed when we got to Corcovado, but that was really a pain and probably not necessary for the day we were there anyway. I am sure long sleeves and pants were for bugs, which we didn't think was much of an issue. We did use bug spray before going. I would have been fine in capris and a long sleeve shirt, rolled up the capris to get on the boat, etc. Also, make sure you don't bring any food. I simply had a cough drop in my backpack and that was taken. Bring a full refillable water bottle. Everyone was so kind and accommodating and really wanted to make sure it was a really enjoyable day for all of us. We are glad we did this tour.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed review! We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. We’re especially happy to hear that you had such a wonderful day with Ryan. He genuinely loves what he does, and it means a lot to see that reflected in your experience. Spotting humpback whales, macaws, birds, and even an anteater in one day is definitely something special! You’re absolutely right, the boat ride to Corcovado can be adventurous depending on sea conditions, and entering the water to board the boat is part of the authentic coastal experience here in Uvita. Because conditions can vary throughout the year (sun exposure, insects, rain, and trail vegetation), we provide general clothing recommendations to help guests feel prepared for different scenarios. That said, we completely understand that sometimes lighter clothing works perfectly well depending on the specific day’s conditions. Thank you as well for mentioning the park regulations regarding food. Corcovado National Park has strict rules to protect wildlife, and outside food items are not permitted, even small items like candy or cough drops as part of conservation efforts. We’re very glad you felt well informed through our pre-tour message and that our team made you feel cared for throughout the day. Our goal is always to provide a safe, organized, and memorable experience for every guest. Thank you again for choosing to explore Corcovado with us. We’re so happy you’re glad you did! We hope to welcome you back again in the future. Pura Vida!

    Misleading

Upon arrival we were told our corcovado tour was combined with a Cano island snorkeling tour, meaning our time in Corcovado was cut short by half, we spent about 1.5 hours actually hiking through the park. Our guide was clearly uncomfortable rushing us through a lackluster tour and highly apologetic for us not seeing any wildlife. a woman in our small 4 person group badly burnt her feet on hot sand because Vanessa took everyones sandals away from them and had them with the other tour group. (There is a small river you have to walk through with nowhere cool to dry your feet off before putting boots back on) For some reason the tour organizer brought us to a beach to have lunch and then told us we had another 40 minutes to just sit at the beach which is not all all what i paid for or prepared for, we spent longer at this beach than we did at Corcovado . We were bait and switched in order to keep our money and given a terrible experience and a waste of nearly an entire day.

Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are truly sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. We would like to clarify that combining Corcovado National Park with Caño Island snorkeling is an established tour option. The schedule is carefully planned to allow guests to experience both destinations within the same day while respecting park regulations, boat logistics, and safety guidelines, while maintaining adequate time at each location. That said, we understand that you felt the time in Corcovado was shorter than expected, and we regret that it may have felt rushed from your perspective. Our intention is always to walk several trails within the permitted areas and then allow time to enjoy lunch and the beautiful surroundings. Wildlife sightings in Corcovado are never guaranteed, as the animals are completely wild and depend on natural conditions on the day of the tour. However, our guides always make every effort to provide the best possible experience within the allowed timeframe. Regarding the sandals, they are typically collected to prevent them from being lost during river crossings and to facilitate smooth coordination between groups. In this specific situation, the guest had her tennis shoes with her and had received instructions from our guide. We understand there may have been some confusion for you, as communication with that particular guest was in Spanish. After the incident, she acknowledged the instructions provided and accepted responsibility, and we ensured she received immediate care and attention. At no time did she express that she felt unsupported, and her well-being was our priority. The beach stop is part of the tour itinerary and is designed as a time to rest and enjoy lunch in a scenic setting. We understand that this may not have aligned with your personal expectations, and we appreciate your feedback as it helps us improve how we communicate the daily schedule more clearly. We never intend for any guest to feel misled, and we take comments like yours seriously. If you would like to discuss your experience further, please feel free to contact us directly — we are always open to constructive dialogue and continuous improvement. Thank you again for your feedback.

Lots of varied activities. Full day trip.

My husband and I took the tour to Corcovado Park. It was a nice mix of activities- boat ride to the park, nature walk, lunch, and beach time. We enjoyed the park and did get to see lots of animals such as a tapir and macaws. The company communicates well in advance beforehand and provides lots of information. However there is one item that others should be aware of. They REQUIRE 'closed toe shoes' for this tour but Keens or other brand of close toe shoes with 'holes' is not acceptable. We showed up with these shoes on because we knew we were going to be boarding a boat through the water with np dock and would get wet and that we needed closed toe shoes and that could get muddy in the park. All of that we understood. But we were told that these shoes were not allowed 'in the park.' So we went back to our hotel to get our sneakers that were closed toe with 'no holes'. So now we had to still go through water and mud with our tennis shoes which has not just caused those shoes to be wet for the rest of our trip instead of the shoes that are designed for water and mud. The mainly infuriating thing is that once we got to the park....all the other tour groups' guests were walking around in the same types of shoes that we had to abandon....along with some people on flip flops. Obviously this is a minor thing however we are very seasoned travelers. We read all their communication, we had intentionally packed and selected our footwear, and just frustrated that we were told there is a 'rule' that is apparently not really a park rule but their company rule because of all the other companies that do not have this requirement.

Response from the operator: Thanks, Kristen! We really appreciate all your feedback and double-check all the info we share before the tour to make sure everyone knows that closed shoes mean hiking boots or tennis shoes. Thanks again, and we’re so happy your adventour with us was full of exciting sights! Pura Vida!

    Great tour.

Walter was great, very informative and a very nice guy! Saw monkeys, crocodiles, bats and all kinds of birds. Lunch was delicious! Boat ride is jarring so be prepared for that.

Response from the operator: Thanks, we are really happy that your Adventour with us was great, and that you have memories that will last forever. Pura Vida!

    A little disappointing

There will be 6 times that you'll need to walk through 2 to 4 foot high water to get on and off the boat. Also, if it's rained recently, you'll walk through slippery, muddy pathways most of the time at Corcovado. Bring hiking boots with good tread if you have them or, better yet, rubber boots like the guides wear. You need to carefully watch where you're walking so it's difficult to enjoy the scenery. We only saw a few birds, an agouti, a few monkeys, and a lizard at the park. We were hoping to see a tapir and, maybe a puma. The boat ride over was fun and we were lucky enough to see false killer whales. The ride back seemed long and a little bumpy. Thank goodness for a small cushion on the seats. Also, bring a reusable water bottle as they only provide water in a large cooler.

Response from the operator: We are truly sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the Adventour experience. Our tours depart from within a National Park, where regulations do not allow the construction of a deck for boarding or disembarking the boat. Regarding the weather and wildlife, our team always does its very best to locate animals and create the richest possible experience for our guests. However, as we are dealing with wild animals in their natural habitat, sightings cannot be guaranteed, nor can weather conditions such as rain be controlled. We are pleased to know that you found the accommodations on our boats comfortable and that this aspect of the tour made your ride more enjoyable. Pura Vida.

Corcovado Region Land and Ocean Wildlife Adventure: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puntarenas.

How much does Corcovado Region Land and Ocean Wildlife Adventure cost?

    +

Prices start at $150 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puntarenas usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Corcovado Region Land and Ocean Wildlife Adventure take?

    +

Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puntarenas is not rushed.

Is Corcovado Region Land and Ocean Wildlife Adventure worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 68 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 30 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Puntarenas, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Corcovado Region Land and Ocean Wildlife Adventure?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Corcovado Region Land and Ocean Wildlife Adventure suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Corcovado Region Land and Ocean Wildlife Adventure?

    +

Around 11 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Puntarenas can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Puntarenas and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Corcovado Region Land and Ocean Wildlife Adventure start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Puntarenas within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Puntarenas?

    +

On Outty we rank every Puntarenas experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tortuga Island Tour with Costa Cat, 3 Hour ATV Medium Waterfall Tour (Swimmable Pool), Turtle Island, from Puntarenas, snorkeling and lunch included!. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Puntarenas?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Puntarenas?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
