Historical Significance Chandragiri hills carry historical significance as well. It was from these hills that King Prithivi Narayan Shah caught the first glimpse of a much scenic and prosperous Kathmandu valley, which in fact instilled in the king’s mind an idea of annexing the valley into his kingdom. According to folklore, Prithivi Narayan Shah is believed to have amassed spiritual powers for unification process after undergoing rigorous ‘sadhana’ or meditation at these very hills. The Gorkhali King disguised himself while ascending the hills in order to avoid being recognized by the Malla Kings of Kathmandu Valley. In his ‘Divyopadesh’ (Divine Preaching), it has been mentioned that King Prithivi Narayan Shah was determined to first annex and then make Kathmandu the capital of unified Nepal. He apparently first saw the valley while on his way back to his kingdom in Gorkha from his in-law’s realm in Makwanpur. Astrologers Bhanu Aryal and Kulananda Dhakal who accompanied the king during that trip had made a prediction that their king’s wish to takeover Kathmandu would definitely come true. As per popular belief, pleased with his perseverance and Sadhana, it was Bhaleshwor Mahadev that granted King Prithivi Narayan Shah his wishes.

Absolutely recommend for small personal tour. Worth the money

Just back in from a great day out using himalayas sanctuary adventure tours service. What can I say. Bishnu the owner met us at the lobby of our hotel to make sure we got in the right car for the day. Good start. The driver delivered us safely to the chindarayam cable car. There was no pressure to be racing back. It was very relaxed and easy. We organised a time for the pickup. The driver was there smiling exactly where we agreed. They even gave us a complimentary stop off at the.monkey temple on the way home which was unexpected but a great touch as a personal service. Once again there was no pressure or rush. We agreed a time for pickup and return to hotel and all as above went seamlessly. Would I recommend. Absolutely yes. No hidden surprises. No hidden fees. Just great service from a friendly small tour operator. Well done!!

Solo trip for a few days in Kathmandu

I booked everything online a week or so in advance. I was contacted a few days prior to confirm pick up location by Bishnu Bhatta which made me feel at ease. When I arrived I got a SIM card (under 4 dollars for a sim with plenty of data, you can buy at the airport or anywhere on the street) and then I let Bishnu know my number in case he needed to call me via trip advisor messaging. The night before he re confirmed everything about what was included and not included in the tour I choose which was all clearly stated online. That morning I was picked up on time and brought to Chandragiri Hill to enjoy the cable car. My driver waited for me while I took the cable car up into the clouds and then above the clouds to the top. Being the rainy season I wasn’t expecting to see the Himalayan Ranges, the cable car was fun and had lovely views. There were a few bars at the top, a temple and a few restaurants, also a view point with binoculars. I was surprised that I did get to see the Ganush Himal Range off in the distance. I then got some vegetable pakoras and a hot lemon honey drink before heading back down. On the way down I messaged my driver and told him I would be there at the entrance in 15 minutes. The driver met me exactly where I got dropped off and then took me back to my Air BnB. Very polite and a safe driver. This tour I was on my own, so you get to experience it at your own pace. It was nice to have the transportation arranged. If you are the type of traveller who likes things pre arranged and booked then this was a good option. I do feel though that you could book your own taxi and go yourself if you are more of a spontaneous traveller for a lot cheaper, as the tour does not include the ticket price or meals (all stated online). Overall a great experience!

Response from the operator: Dear Perry Gavin ! Thank you for sharing your positive experience. We are very happy to know that you enjoyed with us. Himalayan Sanctuary Adventure indeed is the Company to choose for well arrangement .We are proud to be the BEST ; but it is our people that make your holiday memorable. We hope to welcome you back soon. With warm personal regards, On behalf of HSA family

Chandragiri Hill Day Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kathmandu.

How much does Chandragiri Hill Day Tour cost?

+

Prices start at $65 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kathmandu usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Chandragiri Hill Day Tour take?

+

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kathmandu is not rushed.

Is Chandragiri Hill Day Tour worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 48 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 4 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable nightlife in Kathmandu, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Chandragiri Hill Day Tour?

+

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Chandragiri Hill Day Tour suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 18. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 4-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Chandragiri Hill Day Tour?

+

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kathmandu can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kathmandu and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Chandragiri Hill Day Tour start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kathmandu within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Kathmandu?

+

On Outty we rank every Kathmandu experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Private Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour | UNESCO World Heritage sites, Manaslu Circuit Trek, Kathmandu Food and Drink Walking Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Kathmandu?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Kathmandu?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
