What you'll see and do

  1. The British Museum

In the heart of London exists a treasure chest, filled with objects spanning all continents and centuries of human civilization. These fascinating artifacts of priceless value tell the story of mankind and no comparable collection exists in the world. This treasure chest is called The British Museum. It houses over eight million pieces spanning two million years of human history, contained within a seemingly limitless space of nearly one million square feet. As a result, touring the British Museum without a guide to lead the way can be a daunting task. However fear not, on our specially designed private tour your knowledgeable guide, an expert who is passionate about the British Museum and its treasures, will keep you engaged and enthused by sharing the history and anecdotes that bring these ancient objects to life. Relax in the beauty of the wonders contained inside as your guide skilfully navigates you through the seventy galleries housing Athenian marbles, Egyptian Mummies, and Anglo Saxon treasures. You’ve probably heard of Rosetta Stone as language learning program, but what you probably didn’t know was that this is a real stone that played an instrumental role in deciphering Egyptian hieroglyphs and is now on display here. Another guaranteed highlight is the enormous Parthenon Frieze. Just over three feet high and 525 feet long, this incredible sculpture once stood in the Acropolis in Athens and is one of the most important surviving relics of classical Greece. Another group of “must see” highlights lie within the Egyptian Rooms and their impressive collection of mummies. Your guide will explain the importance of death and the afterlife in Ancient Egyptian culture as you witness this incredible piece of human history in person. The museum also contains a wonderful selection of artifacts representing the British Isles’ own Anglo Saxon culture, such as those found at the burial sites of Sutton Hoo. Your guide will share the amazing story of how these objects survived the centuries and the grave robbers, making them an improbable find. This private tour offers you the special opportunity to be shown around these highlights alongside your own personal guide dedicated to you and only you. As well as ensuring that you don’t miss the must see exhibits contained within, this will also give them the opportunity to tailor parts of the tour to your own desires and wants. Allow them to educate and elucidate you on the parts of history that you are most interested in. Use your own story to engage you with the story of mankind. All that’s left is for you to set off on an incredible time-travelling adventure through this chronicle of human culture from the beginning of time to the modern age, on our Best of the British Museum tour.

Guided travel through time with an excellent guide.

Mary gave our group of 4 adults an informative and very interesting tour of the British Museum. For 2 1/2 hours she lead us through time, from ancient Roman, Greek and Egyptian to somewhat modern times in North America, easily navigating the crowded hallways, always finding a less crowded opportunity to see the amazing objects on display. It was sometimes difficult to hear her so perhaps using a headphone system would be better in the future. But she was prompt, very knowledgeable and clever with the information she provided. A great experience!

British Museum Highlights Private Tour in London including the Rosetta Stone: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for London.

How much does British Museum Highlights Private Tour in London including the Rosetta Stone cost?

+

Prices start at $20 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in London usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does British Museum Highlights Private Tour in London including the Rosetta Stone take?

+

Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in London is not rushed.

Is British Museum Highlights Private Tour in London including the Rosetta Stone worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 65 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.3/5 across 106 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in London, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule British Museum Highlights Private Tour in London including the Rosetta Stone?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is British Museum Highlights Private Tour in London including the Rosetta Stone suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book British Museum Highlights Private Tour in London including the Rosetta Stone?

+

Around 37 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in London can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in London and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does British Museum Highlights Private Tour in London including the Rosetta Stone start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central London within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in London?

+

London's best attractions split cleanly: the museums are free and need no booking, so the paid market is about views, theatre and getting out of the city for a day. That makes value scoring unusually important here, and the Outty Ranking penalises anything charging premium prices for access you could get for nothing. On Outty we rank every London experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Soho Music & Historic Pubs Tour, London Small Group Tour of Historical Pubs, The Great British Rock and Roll Walking Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit London?

+

May to September for long evenings, December for the Christmas markets. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in London?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
