    Exquisite Tarquinia, Italy

We’ve done several excursions at stops on our Oceania Regatta cruise. We wanted to tour Tarquinia, Italy and had to arrange a non-ship excursion to do so. We bought a Viator package which was fine; however, our day was solely conducted by a woman, Anna, who picked us up at and delivered us back to the cruise dock. Our day was remarkably well-organized starting with a stop at the UNESCO World Heritage necropolis in Tarquinia which consists of over 20 burial sites of early Etruscans who predated the Romans. You walk down steps to view the remarkably-preserved tombs. Next, we toured the medieval town of Tarquinia with a variety of churches, squares, and remarkable vistas over the Mediterranean, north to Tuscany and east over the countryside. Before lunch we toured the workshops of two remarkable artists - a sculptor and a potter - and learned a great deal about both arts! Next, we enjoyed a casual, 1 hour lunch that was delicious and pre-planned by Anna. It was accompanied by plenty of H2O and wine. Then, we spent time at the National Archeological Museum in the heart of Tarquinia. Displayed there are many very interesting original artifacts from the Etruscan era including burial tombs, jewelry and pottery. Thereafter, we sat for a gelato, stopped at a gourmet wine shop and we were back on the ship at 3:30. Anna was an incredible tour guide. She picked us up in an AC’d Mercedes van at 9 am. She lives in Tarquinia so the tour was very personal. Next time we will book directly at ciao@myloveitaly.com or call at +393277309029.

    Such a wonderful tour

Erna was friendly and knowledgeable and answered all our questions about the area. We had such a relaxing day touring the sites and couldn't have asked for better weather. Lunch was beautiful, fresh and delicious and we tried some gelato before we left Tarquinia. I highly recommend this tour to cruisers that don't want to go into Rome.

Operator Never Showed and Refused to Give Refund!

Operator Never Showed Up and Rufuses to Give Refund! We had booked and paid $448 for this tour months ago through Viator. On the day of the tour we waited an hour and no one showed up. There were several cruise ships in that day and the company was probably short of English speaking guides, so we’re were just ditched! We called Viator and were booked on a comparable tour for a similar price. The driver came and when we found out it was just a driver, no guide, no admissions, etc. we cancelled immediately. We then paid $250 for a driver privately, not through Viator and had a very good day, what was left of it after haggling with Viator for a couple hours! So far we have paid 250€ for a tour we actually got and about $995 for tours through Viator which we didn’t get a refund for. OUTRAGEOUS!

    Wonderful tour and guide

Erna was a wonderful tour guide. She picked us up on time. She is polite and helpful. She gave us as much time as we wanted at all the stops. We didn't have to do much walking because she drove us. The lunch was really good and very filling. We had wine and an after lunch drink. Erna made sure we were back to our ship in plenty of time. I don't know why Princess doesn't include a visit to the tombs as this is Unesco. But I'm sure glad Erna's family company includes it all and for a good price!

Avoid....they cancelled our excursion with a 1 1/2 hr notice

Cancelled our ship excursion with literally 1 1/2 hrs notice! Reason? Vehicle problems. Not a reputable company, with no spare vehicle! Or was it because there wasnt enough tourist booked? We had no time to even plan the day, pais thousands to go on vacation and this day got ruined! Avoid this company like the plaque, or risk losing your valuable day!

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Lake Bracciano.

How much does Before The Romans The Etruscan UNESCO Site of Tarquinia from port cost?

    +

Prices start at $231 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Lake Bracciano usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Before The Romans The Etruscan UNESCO Site of Tarquinia from port take?

    +

Plan for about 6.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Lake Bracciano is not rushed.

Is Before The Romans The Etruscan UNESCO Site of Tarquinia from port worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 70 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 31 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Lake Bracciano, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Before The Romans The Etruscan UNESCO Site of Tarquinia from port?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Before The Romans The Etruscan UNESCO Site of Tarquinia from port suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Before The Romans The Etruscan UNESCO Site of Tarquinia from port?

    +

Around 11 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Lake Bracciano can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Lake Bracciano and add a light layer if any part of the 6.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Before The Romans The Etruscan UNESCO Site of Tarquinia from port start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Lake Bracciano within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Lake Bracciano?

    +

On Outty we rank every Lake Bracciano experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Civitavecchia Shore Excursion: Best of Rome Private Tour, Food Tasty and History Tour in Civitavecchia, VIP Tour of Rome (3/5/8hrs) Colosseum & Vatican Museums. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Lake Bracciano?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Lake Bracciano?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
