    Good Experience

On time, informative, took us to a number of sites and we saw the aurora. Although not the spectacle we hoped for it was a good time, despite the cold.

    Great experience with Aurora Quest

My friend and I went on an Aurora Chasing Tour with a small group. There were two other people besides the guide, and we had a very comfortable, spacious vehicle that kept us warm. We left at 10pm and got back at 3pm. Our guide was so friendly, helped us with where to point our cameras to see if we could get a good shot, and overall was attentive to when it seemed like the group wanted to stay in the car to warm up vs stand outside and stare at the sky. He was experienced and provided good company. I’d highly recommend this tour. We had a clear night and the auroras were on a big display for about 1 hour of the 5 hours we were out.

    Honest and above board

Would highly recommend reaching out to this business if you’re considering a tour. While in Fairbanks, the weather was pretty bad for aurora watching (90% or more cloud cover) so we were nervous about spending hundreds of dollars and potentially not seeing anything. They put me at ease saying they would keep an eye on the weather, multiple forecasts, plus the observations of their people on the ground to let me know what it might look like. Ultimately, it did not work out weather-wise for us on either day we were considering, but I am thankful for their honesty and communication. There were other places I had previously reached out to who were still booking with a no refund/guarantee policy for those nights despite the forecasts (it also ended up snowing those nights). While I know aurora sightings can’t be guaranteed, I feel that they were very above board by letting me know chances were very low upfront. If I return to the area, I will definitely be giving them a call.

Aurora yes- but guide no fun and no spirit of adventure !

We had such a dismal experience with Rene on this tour- he was grumpy, non-communicative and really made the trip no fun at all. The suburban he drove was old and the back seat did not work so it was a complete hassle to get in and out of the car with our gear as well as never did get any seat belts on. He drove only to turnouts on the road so we always had a telephone wire in our pictures and when he encouraged walking around- 2 semi's came rolling in. Yes- we did see the Aurora, yes it was the cheapest around and Yes- it was the worst experience. It cracked me up when I tried to share my concern with him- he texted back that maybe the guide was having a bad day. He complained how hard it is for him to do this days in a row- I so wish we were with the two other guides that seem younger and more enthusiastic. If you go, make sure to insist he is not your guide and if you want a delightful Arctic Night...follow the clue to a wonderful tour.

    Aurora chasing

Great tour with Rene. He had an eye for spotting aurora activity and stopped several times on the way to Wickersham Dome so we got quite a show.

Aurora Chaser Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Fairbanks.

How much does Aurora Chaser Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $161 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Fairbanks usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Aurora Chaser Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Fairbanks is not rushed.

Is Aurora Chaser Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 53 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 28 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Fairbanks, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Aurora Chaser Tour?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Aurora Chaser Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Aurora Chaser Tour?

    +

Around 10 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Fairbanks can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Fairbanks and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Aurora Chaser Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Fairbanks within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Fairbanks?

    +

Fairbanks is the aurora capital of interior Alaska: heated viewing lodges, late-night chase tours, Arctic Circle day drives up the Dalton Highway, dog sledding and summer riverboat cruises. On Outty we rank every Fairbanks experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Northern Lights - Aurora with FREE Photos - Arctic Night Tours, Dog Sledding and Mushing Experience in North Pole, Fairbanks Ice Fishing Expedition in a Heated Cabin with Fish Cookout. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Fairbanks?

    +

Late August to April for aurora, June to August for midnight-sun river trips. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Fairbanks?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
