    Fantastic Tour and Tour Guide

We had the privilege of joining our tour guide Rui for a wonderful journey through the history and stories of the various interesting sites that we saw. Rui was one the most professional, knowledgeable and interesting tour guides we have ever experienced. His passion for history came through over the course of the tour. His knowledge was deep as there was no question he couldn’t answer eloquently. He expertly guided us through the itinerary and was always made sure we were comfortable and safe. Highly recommend.

Offers a breathtaking view of the city!

Located on the top of Lisbon's highest hill, this castle offers you a breathtaking view of the city. Of course the castle itself and its surrounding area are very rich in history ... excavations of ancient settlements, the well-preserved medieval walls, the museum, etc. ... but I must admit that it's really the view of the city from the top that impressed me. I also loved the peacocks and the peahens that roamed around freely in its gardens. To reach the place you can either walk uphill (which is quite challenging), or take a bus from Figueira Square, or take the famous yellow-colored tram 28 from Martim Moniz Square. Any of these options offers you a chance to see Lisbon's interesting narrow streets, colorful houses, etc.

    Unforgettable Memories

My wife and I took the Alfama & Castle St. George Skip-the-Line Tour on May 22nd, and it was one of the highlights of our trip to Lisbon. The tour was exceptionally well organized, and skipping the long entrance lines at St. George Castle made the experience even more enjoyable and stress-free. What truly made this tour outstanding was our guide, Rui. He was knowledgeable, professional, personable, and clearly passionate about Lisbon’s history and culture. Rui brought the Alfama district to life with fascinating stories, historical insight, and local details we never would have discovered on our own. He balanced history, architecture, culture, and humor perfectly throughout the tour. Walking through the narrow streets of Alfama, exploring hidden viewpoints, and then visiting St. George Castle with the incredible panoramic views over Lisbon was unforgettable. Rui also took the time to answer questions, provide restaurant recommendations, and make everyone feel welcomed and engaged. If you are visiting Lisbon and want a deeper understanding of the city while avoiding the long castle lines, I highly recommend this tour — and especially Rui as your guide. Excellent experience from start to finish.

Alfama and the Castle of Saint George Skip the line Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Lisbon.

How much does Alfama and the Castle of Saint George Skip the line Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $16 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Lisbon usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Alfama and the Castle of Saint George Skip the line Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Lisbon is not rushed.

Is Alfama and the Castle of Saint George Skip the line Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 81 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 60 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Lisbon, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Alfama and the Castle of Saint George Skip the line Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Alfama and the Castle of Saint George Skip the line Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Alfama and the Castle of Saint George Skip the line Tour?

    +

Around 21 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Lisbon can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Lisbon and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Alfama and the Castle of Saint George Skip the line Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Lisbon within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Lisbon?

    +

On Outty we rank every Lisbon experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Lisbon City Center Tour - The Unmissable Lisbon, Sintra Private Trip from Lisbon Customizable Dreamlike Experience, True 4Hour Private Tuk Tuk Tour: Discover Lisbon with a Local!. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Lisbon?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Lisbon?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
