About this experience

Inspired by Hollywood Movies and TV that have brought to life America's infamous prison stories, Alcotraz is London's first immersive theatrical cocktail bar. From the orange jumpsuits upon entrance, to the real metallic cells, Alcotraz becomes the perfect backdrop to a drink within an epic yet intimate environment. You won’t find a set menu of drinks here…after all, it is prison! The working inmates of Alcotraz will be serving unique, personalised cocktails behind bars using the liquor that visiting convicts will have smuggled in and your personal tastes. As new inmates you can expect to see your illegally smuggled liquor combined with liqueurs, bitters and homemade syrups to make bespoke, contemporary and classic cocktails perfect for your time behind bars. Be as creative as you can with your attempts to smuggle-in liquor. Alternatively, Inmate Cassidy has got the Guards on your side who have their own system for hiding contraband. Just make sure the Warden doesn’t catch you.

Alcotraz Immersive Experience – Is It Worth It?

We went to Alcotraz as a group of seven, having booked a deal through Virgin Experiences and a Blue Light Card, which brought the price down to around £36 per person. At that price, it was okay, but there is absolutely no way I’d pay the full £51 per person, especially when you then have to pay extra for your drinks. As a group of seven, we were split between cells, with up to four people in each. However, you do have some flexibility to move between the cells when the acting isn’t taking place. You’re also taken together as a whole group for the line-up photo, and they use one device for the group, so there’s no need to pay extra for individual photos. The photo opportunities throughout the experience are actually one of the best parts, and the prison jumpsuits are good quality and really add to the atmosphere. You can use the toilet whenever you need to, although you can’t leave your cell during the final 20 minutes or so of the experience. The cocktails were fine, but nothing particularly special. One thing to be aware of is that if your group brings a selection of spirits, they will use them across the experience rather than tailoring drinks to individual preferences. So, if you bring rum and vodka but someone in your group doesn’t like rum, they could still end up with a rum-based round. Basically, tough luck! The registration process was also a bit pointless. You’re asked to create a story and an alias when signing up, but none of this was referred to during the experience. You then have to fill out another card with your details when you arrive, and you could simply make everything up on the day anyway. Unfortunately, the biggest disappointment was the acting. Overall, it felt quite poor and lacked the immersion and quality we were expecting. The whole experience also felt very rushed, which really affected the atmosphere. Having done Avora next door, the difference was noticeable – Alcotraz didn’t feel anywhere near as polished or immersive. There are some good elements: the set looks great, the photo opportunities are excellent, the jumpsuits are a nice touch and the concept itself is fun. However, the execution just didn’t live up to other immersive experiences we’ve done. Overall: We were glad we got it for around £36 each, but even then we felt it was only okay. At £51 per person plus paying for your own drinks, I definitely wouldn’t recommend it. It felt rushed, the acting was disappointing and it simply wasn’t good value for money.

Immersive, funny, and well worth doing

Alcotraz was a genuinely enjoyable experience from start to finish. We both thoroughly enjoyed the whole setup. The immersive element works because the staff stay in character and commit properly, which makes it feel convincing rather than forced. We had lots of laughs throughout, and I really enjoyed my little acting part. The ‘chicken soup’ was particularly good, it added a little extra to the experience but for me it was all about the experience. Well worth doing. Really recommend it if you want something different and entertaining. A big thank you to all involved.

Alcotraz Prison Cocktail Experience in London: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for London.

How much does Alcotraz Prison Cocktail Experience in London cost?

+

Prices start at $59 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in London usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Alcotraz Prison Cocktail Experience in London take?

+

Plan for about 1.8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in London is not rushed.

Is Alcotraz Prison Cocktail Experience in London worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 84 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 841 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in London, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Alcotraz Prison Cocktail Experience in London?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Alcotraz Prison Cocktail Experience in London suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 18. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 1.8-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Alcotraz Prison Cocktail Experience in London?

+

Around 294 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in London can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in London and add a light layer if any part of the 1.8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Alcotraz Prison Cocktail Experience in London start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central London within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in London?

+

London's best attractions split cleanly: the museums are free and need no booking, so the paid market is about views, theatre and getting out of the city for a day. That makes value scoring unusually important here, and the Outty Ranking penalises anything charging premium prices for access you could get for nothing. On Outty we rank every London experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Soho Music & Historic Pubs Tour, London Small Group Tour of Historical Pubs, The Great British Rock and Roll Walking Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit London?

+

May to September for long evenings, December for the Christmas markets. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in London?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
